Hollywood,

Hello, I am new to DCS and even newer to Vaicom Pro.   I really like it and it helps add to immersion in the game.  I did all the test words, which took awhile because I got the Chatter, and RIO bundle.   I had a few words that the PC did not recognize so I switched to VPSX Processing.  That corrected a lot of the problems.  I had a few words left that I had trouble with so I went to the Windows Speech Dictionary as you suggested in your fine manual.  The words I added were Detling, Descent, 10000, and JTAC.   That has fixed almost all of my problems.  But... I cannot get Descent 10000 to ever be recognized.  It gives me the list of suggested phrases and I say the number of the correct answer and OK but then it still doesn't recognize that phrase.  Do you have any suggested for me?   I am from the Midwest USA so I don't think I have an accent ( I am sure everybody says that )  I have even had my son try that phrases and Windows does not like his voice either.

I had one more question, should it be Descend instead of Descent?  I think the opposite of Climb is Descend.  But was not an English major at University.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi there Jim! Congrats and welcome as a new a VAICOM user.
Neither VAICOM nor VoiceAttack are doing any recognition actually. VAICOM uses VA as a gateway to Microsoft Speech Recognition, to get your speech back as text. That's why you need to do the training in MS, and the dictionary is also handled by MS. You did the training right? And by that I mean the MS speech training where you read a lot of text, and not the VAICOM keywords training. (I just re-did mine five times, both "paths" = 10 times, not a native English speaker).
Why do I write this? Just to give you a heads up, to make you see better how this works, so you can solve your issues. And unfortunately Hollywood can't really help you with the recognition. (Funny thing about that 10K. One of the few issues I have myself).
So train, train, and look in the VA log to find the words needed to be added to the Dictionary.
Also, a really stupid simple trick. If one word is repeatedly recognized as another word, you can add that as an alias in the VAICOM keywords editor. Remember to "Finish" with the song and dance.
Feel free to ask more if needed!
Cheers!

MAXsenna,

I did do the MS Speech Training once.  I will do it a few more times.  That is a great idea about the Alias too.

Thanks,

@Jimmer, @MAXsenna 's idea to use aliases is really good - you just need to know the correct order to do things when adding the command for foolproof adding (it is not quite as easy as click in the box and type). The steps that work for me are:

1. Select from the drop down list on the editor tab the command phrase you want to add an alias (Descent 10000)

2. Click ADD NEW to get Descent 100001 in the command phrase

3. Click on the alias box once to highlight the text and then a second time to place the cursor at the front of the command phrase (before the D)

4. Type your new phrase in (e.g. Drop 10 k or a phrase that works for you) and then use the DEL key on your keyboard to delete the original phrase

5. Once all aliases added press FINISH etc.

As a thought if you add an alias for this you might want to do it for all Descent phrases so that you don't have to remember a mix of commands to do the same thing
