Hi, I don't know if there is a someone aware about this.

as far as I know, based on Aviation regulation (both ICAO or FAA), traffics are not allowed and should not cross an illuminated Stop Bar/Stop Line. Only proceed past a Stop Bar when ATC provides the appropriate verbal instruction.

Here I found the traffics AI passing stop bar/line.

ps. I don't try all airport/airbase but i guess its only happen when backtracking runway.

thank you.

Kind Regards,

This is a somewhat complicated issue. Assuming that the aircraft are operating as one flight, they should in fact be allowed to backtrack together, so this issue shouldn't even come up.

If however the aircraft are either not operating together as a flight or are too large or too numerous to do a backtrack together, they should be holding short of the runway holding position sign/hold short line so as to not pose a danger to the departing aircraft. This is imo the most pressing problem, because some aircraft will also taxi onto the runway and cause a collision with the departing aircraft (B-17s for example, attached).

And it is not only isolated to Gecitkale. At Gazipasa for example, the next aircraft in line will be half on the runway while first aircraft is doing its takeoff run after backtracking. I think this might be an issue present at pretty much all airfields.

The issue is not only present when backtracking though, even when taking off "normally", aircraft that are not part of the flight that is cleared for takeoff should be holding short of the runway holding position sign/hold short line, but currently they just roll through the line.

It's a complicated problem since there is numerous different aircraft, airfields, runway configurations etc to consider, so finding a good one size fits all solution to this problem is going to be difficult. The "easiest" stop-gap solution to the problem is probably to have all aircraft hold short of the runway holding position signs/hold short line when another aircraft is on the runway, regardless of whether the aircraft are operating as a flight or not.

  • Thanks 1

Everybody said: "That's impossible!" Then someone came along who didn't know that and just did it.
