When doing the training mission for carrier takeoff, the instructor advises you to set the trim based on aircraft weight. He says the aircraft is "46 thousand 600 and change," and advises you to set trim at 17. But if you actually look at the checklist, as he advises you to do, it says that your aircraft is actually 49,000 and change. So shouldn't you be setting trim to 19 instead of 17? Is this a test?  😉

(I'm guessing it's actually an error).

Additionally, after launch I get some really weird behavior from the flight path marker. If I leave it uncaged, it doesn't appear on the HUD at all--it's just flashing on the right side of the display (but you'll never find it by turning right). It's not a wind issue, because the pitch ladder is centered on the display (and wind speed in this mission is set to zero, anyway). If you cage the FPM, it does appear on the display. But, if you roll at all--and I'm talking even like two degrees of roll--it immediately plummets off the bottom of the HUD. And that's not just a display error, because the aircraft does indeed start to lose altitude, fast. Returning roll to zero degrees and pitching up is the only way to recover.

I'm new to this aircraft, and maybe I'm just doing something wrong, or missing some setting that is causing this behavior? I followed all of the tutorial instructions; gear is up, flaps are set to "auto," speed brake is retracted, and I'm flying at 300+ knots. I'm not sure what would be causing that behavior. It's not something I've seen in any other training mission.

Ah, that makes sense. Now that I think about it, the instructor does tell you to set the INS alignment knob to CV, but he doesn't tell you to wait for it to finish, and just rushes right ahead into taxiing up to the catapult. It's also weird that you even need to do an alignment, because the mission otherwise starts you in a hot aircraft, with the emergency brake off, ready to taxi.

It seems like the instructor should probably tell you to A) engage the emergency brake before doing the alignment, B) set one of the DDIs to HSI to monitor its progress, and then C) set the knob to IFA and release the emergency brake when done.

Reread the instructions. He says that the only start up difference for being on the carrier is to use CV instead of GND for the alignment process. He then says to that you will just be working on taxi and takeoff for this mission. He never told you to touch the INS knob.

That weight number looks like it's hard coded into the mission script. You also have irregular fuel values at this point. What were you doing earlier? You have more external fuel than internal fuel yet your internal is down to some 9k when it should be around 10.8k when you have fuel in the externals.

I'll run through it again, but I'm sure you are right.

Nothing at all. At this point in the mission, the plane hasn't moved, and I haven't touched the throttle.

Now that's odd. There was an external tank right? Really the only way for this to happen would be if external tank transfer was disabled. That clearly hasn't happened as there isn't anything about it on the ADV-.
