Could easily have put this in the Mission Editor sub, but I guess it is pretty WW2 specific???

Anyway, we have the new weather presets in game now… can we set moon phase, or are they automatically set by time / date against an in-game lunar calendar??

IIRC Silent Hunter 3 had an accurate celestial / lunar simulation and it added hugely to the sense of immersion.

Flying on moonlit nights might be a good way into night ops and Jagdwaffe…

Moon phases are set automatically and match reality.

Are we able to see what they are in the ME?

Might try some Wilde Sau missions with the Anton… Mk.1 eyeball rather than GCI though

Is there any way to get you home field to put flare-path on??

Tried a moonlit night flight in the Anton but it is a devil of a job to find and line up with the runway.  Managed to land in the end but the ground crew are going to be pretty busy 🤔

OK, so have been playing around with this idea - very tricky / challenging

(ie plenty to learn / improve…!)

We don’t have a Lanc / Halifax, so I set up a line astern group of B-17s with a couple km spacing to imitate a bomber stream… needed to be individual aircraft on same route, not a formation.

Challenges / things to fix:

- Nightfighter ops really do need GCI… in the absence of GCI I used the F10 map and object labels as a cheat… rather not have to resort to these, but even on a moonlit night I think it would be near impossible without

- Searchlights - had some set up around Ouistreham and around my home airfield. Wanted both the visual reference and the possible coning of bombers… but they didn’t come on…🤔

- Orientation… needs careful and disciplined flying to avoid getting disoriented - same as any IFR, but with added:

- Depth / distance perception. Closing speed, visual refs and firing distance much trickier in the dark

One surprise though - the B-17 gunners didn’t open up on me…!

Definitely worth fleshing this out / tweaking if you want a challenge.
