jaguara5 Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 (edited) My setup is i7 4790K , 32gb ddr3 , gtx 1070, 4k monitor, trackir. dcs and w10 are on separate ssd's. 90% of dcs flying are 1 v 1 bfm mp fights ion private servers (hosting simple bfm mission with a friend) sometimes fights on fogfight servers with few other playets online. I don't play campaigns or sp /mp missions with dozens of other ai units / players participating. Until the new clouds patch i could play with 50+ frames on caucasus/ nevada map,4k most settings high (slider selecte options were mostly to the left) no aa msa etc.with the new clouds i get around 33 frames (even when i chose no clouds in the wathher option) which doesn't feel good to my eyes.would a gpu upgrade 3060ti/3070) give me 60 frames with the same or better settings or would that be a waste of money due to cpu botleneck? Thx! Edited July 31, 2021 by jaguara5
Thinder Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Your i7 4790K and DDR3 RAM make your system too slow with a CPU bottleneck of nearly 10%, it's 9.24% at 1080P and slightly better at 4K with 2.32% but this means that your GPU is also in the weak side. The whole system is under requiered specs for 4K play anyway, a simple upgrade of GPU isn't going to be enough. First your CPU controller is limited in terms of RAM speed and number of ranks, if you can get a faster CPU, capable of handling DDR4 3200 MHz and make sure you bound your RAM to it with a maximum of (combined) 4 ranks it will get better and will be able to handle a faster GPU. xoxen Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 (edited) Hi jaguara5 I had the same CPU until end of April. I do not run 4k but 3x 27" (7680x1440). I checked with MSI Afterburner what my limitation is. If your GPU is running at 99-100%, it is definitely the bottleneck. I switched the CPU to a 5800X with not additional FPS. Then I switched from a 1080Ti to a RX 6800 XT and also this did not bring me a major boost. My recommendation is to check the utilization of the GPU and CPU and then take your decision. Upgrading from a GTX 1070 to 1080Ti brought me appr. 25% more FPS at that times, but this was before 2.7. A RTX 3060 is similar to the 1080Ti speed wise. I hope this helps. jaguara5 Posted August 18, 2021 Author Posted August 18, 2021 (edited) 3060ti installed. The performance gain was big. In my favourite mssion (with heavy ovrrcast) i went from 33 -38 fps to 50 -70 (most of the time around 60 -64) at 4k. Edit - After some more testing (beyond the usual missions i fly as stated above) i can seen frame drops above dense forest areas. Edited August 18, 2021 by jaguara5
