GTX 1080ti vs RTX 3080ti - Caucasus Performance Comparison

Hi Legends!

 

 

The purpose of this short flight was to compare the GTX 1080ti to the RTX3080ti - both from Gigabyte and both their 'Gaming' OC variant (yawn).

 

The Resolution is pretty high at 5120x1440 and some of the most common settings ramped up pretty high in DCS World except Supersampling - that would've brought the 1080ti to a standstill - i tried it first!

 

The short flight was actually on reflection, well suited for this video. Lots of trees, different lighting conditions, long and far distance rendering, smoke, flairs, rockets and tracer, on a mission which is one of the infamous but enormous Dynamic Campaigns (credit: 'Through the Inferno' IIRC - very nice indeed - go check it out), with scripts galore and hundreds of units active fighting 'their own war'. The results are............. well...... to be expected but still a very worthwhile examination of how the GTX 1080ti (a very capable card even in 2021), is trounced by the much more capable RTX 3080ti in DCS World 2.7, how the CPU is utilised much better, how the temperatures are lower on the 3080ti yet drawing more power, yadda yadda.

A very interesting and worthy comparison.  Please take from it what you will.

FWIW, if it wasn't a necessity for me to upgrade to the 3080ti due to work etc, I absolutely wouldn't have done - the upgrade is certainly not worth £1400 ! However and with that said, it was a perfect time to pit these two cards against each other - Fight!

I haven't watched it yet but look forward to it. I have been wondering of I should upgrade my 1080ti and if the juice is worth the sqeeze.

Hi Buddy.  3080ti is at the bottom.  This video was 5120x1440 sampled to 2560x720 and then doubled up for 2560x1440 so it may be hard to see but it is on the Stat overlay.  Apologies.

As for color and sharpness, they look to me to be about the same.  Only the frame rate is higher on the 3080.

Yes, I'd agree with this completely although the same track on the same monitor and the same settings - one done before the card came out and one with the 3080ti in. Would we 'expect' to see a difference in colour and sharpness?  I'm genuinely not sure - I don't think so.  Thanks for your comment m8.
