hitman Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Anyone own either one of these cards? Im upgrading soon and Im swapping out a bunch of computer components for better overclocking. I want to get dual GTX260's, but how high of a step up is that? On that note...what about a GTX280? How well does it perform in single versus GTX260s in SLi?
qrazi Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 GTX 260 in SLI should be faster then GTX 280 in almost all scenarios, but especially in higher resolutions. Example: Anandtech Benchmarks Couldn't find a 9600GT SLI vs GTX 260 SLI review so quickly, but found non-SLI on Techreport MSI 870A-G54, AMD Phenom II X2 555 @Phenom II X4 B55 BE, 3.2 GHz quad-core, Asus EAH4870 DK/HTDI/512MD5, OCZ Gold Edition DDR3 1333MHz 4GB Kit Low-Voltage. Budget = Cheap = Good :D

mc_smile Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 As for me - 260 GTX definately. Great performance in solo, comfort temperature and noise level in well ventilated case, high OC potential, more price-friendly then Gf 280. However upgrading to this videocard requires a fast processor to get full potential of this card It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice © Scooter Intel Core i7 8700K, Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 5, 32Gb DDR4 CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 3200MHz, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2080Ti Extreme, VKB Gunfighter MkII + TM HOTAS Warthog + TM MFD Panels, TrackIR5
crazysundog Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I own a GTX 260; Core 216 Superclocked edition by eVGA. It's the same as a 260 but it has 216 cores instead of 192 and is factory oc'd and costs just a little more than the regular 260...it also benched rather close to the 280. check out this video review and this benchmark review http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/10103-evga-geforce-gtx-260-core-216-216-sp-superclocked-edition-review.html they also have a 9800 review on that site you may want to check out... I went with the C2D 8500 to run everything for now; will probably upgrade in a year
hitman Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 (edited) Well, I was thinking about getting an eVGA 780i mainboard with a Q9550 with dual GTX260s straight up eVGA as well...unfortunately I have to trim my budget down a tad now. Ive encountered some rather FUBAR expenses today. Probably be stuck with the 2 260s instead now for a few months longer. I own a GTX 260; Core 216 Superclocked edition by eVGA. This guy is saying you need 38 amps and a bare minimum of a 700w psu to run (1) of those cards!!! My little rinky dinky 1200w psu can only supply 30a. Jeeeezus! Edited November 18, 2008 by hitman
crazysundog Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I've got the evga 750i mainboard; no complaints on that at all... but you may want to download and copy to disc the newest drivers; the drivers on the disc provided gave me issues for some reason.. wish i had the foresight to do that!
hitman Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 I have a 750i board now...I dont much care for it, even though it is a good board overall. Just want something that can handle better performance.
stealthtemplates Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I'd proberly also suggest waiting till next month when the 55nm GTX280's are out, they should be faster and cheaper
