VoiceAttack asterisks in VAICOMPro profile

Recommended Posts

Have noticed in other threads that the downloaded VCP plugin profile for VA has most, if not all commands surrounded by asterisks to allow the specific command to be used in a phrase. My VCP profile contains very few “asterisks”. Anyone know how to add these without messing the profile up?

few “asterisks”.

Are you referring to the AI communication collection?

If so, then you just need to redo the commands.

In the Viacom dialog go to the editor tab and press FINISH. Following the instructions in the dialog that popups up.

Pressing FINISH will copy all of Viacom commands into the clipboard so you can update this in you VA profile. You can also click the TEST option on the same dialogue to see if you missing any.

To change keywords you need to use the Keywords editor. See P37 in the manual.

I understand going into the keywords editor. Can I simply edit an existing keyword by adding those asterisks before and after the keyword? Never used the “test” button, how does that work?

So to edit 1 keyword for instance i can just add the asterisks before and after and then do the finish steps? Do I need to click ‘apply”?

Just changing the keyword will not work. You need to add aliases. Read P37 in the latest manual. It will explain this

OK, Many thanks! I did try adding an alias once and it didn’t work so I had to go in and reset everything. May shy away from that. Thanks Anyway!

Any chance someone could walk me through adding an alias to the “Inbound” keyword or just editing that keyword, if possible? Don’t see specific instructions in the manual. Thanks!

adding an alias to the “Inbound” keyword

In Viacom select the 'Inbound' phrase. In my case, you can see it has 1 alias defined (Number to the right of the dropdown)

Click 'ADD NEW' and type in what you want it to be called. Then click 'APPLY'.

Will now show (2) aliases to the right of the drop down.

Repeat for other phrases.

Once down, press FINISH.  You will see the following dialog. Read it carefully

Go back to Voice Attack and edit your profile i.e. click the pencil button

Double click on the AI commutation's row. NOTE: It is important that the Multipart commands are consolidated. See the red underline in the image below

Delete the text in the highlighted 'When I say' textbox and paste the updated phrases from the clipboard.

Click OK.

You can now test and see if it works

Just an added thought/question if you’re still around. Haven’t tried the above yet but here’s my question. Since all I am doing is taking existing profile phrases and putting asterisks before and aft, can I safely delete the original phrase? For instance, If I add an alias to the phrase “Inbound” and that alias is “*Inbound*”, can I delete the non asterisked original “Inbound” to avoid confusion? Thanks!

Do NOT add the asterisks in the keyword editor. The words and phrases in the keyword editor are the ones that VAICOM recognizes when it receives them from VoiceAttack. But before VoiceAttack will pass one to VAICOM it has to recognize it first. The sequence is: (1) You push a TX button, which causes VAICOM to tell VoiceAttack to start listening. (2) Microsoft voice recognition recognizes some words and passes them to VoiceAttack. (3) VoiceAttack tries to match what it received to a command. (4) If a command is recognized then the received phrase is passed to VAICOM. The Asterisks come into play in step (3). They are there to tell VoiceAttack to recognize a command even if it is embedded in a longer phrase. (See VoiceAttack documentation for details.) But the words in the VAICOM editor do not include the asterisk, and are not supposed to. These should only appear in the VoiceAttack profile, and they get put there when you do the FINISH step because VAICOM adds them when it copies the word list to the clipboard. That happens in the background and you should not do it manually.

OOPS! I actually added asterisks to a couple of keyword phrases and then accomplished the finish steps. So now I have a few keywords in VoiceAttack with asterisks that did not have them before (in the VCPro profile) and the commands work as advertised when embedded in a longer phrase in VoiceAttack. But the words in the VCPro keyword editor still have asterisks with them that I added to copy to VA. Should I re-edit them to remove the asterisks in the editor?

Are you sure you added asterisks in the VAICOM Editor window? I tried to do that and couldn't do it. VAICOM gave me a message that Inbound was already in use when I tried to edit it to *Inbound*. And it didn't take that as an alias either. So I'm wondering what exactly you did to add asterisks to existing commands in the editor.

Going to go back and will try to duplicate the steps tomorrow. Can’t remember if I used the “apply” button or not, think I did.

But, yes, I just added the asterisks to the phrase in the editor window and verified at the bottom of the window that is what I wanted and then went thru the “Finish” steps and now I have updated commands in VA. I tested and found that, although not perfect each time, I can say, ie. “Batumi, Request Startup Spot 2” and I get the normal response. Also tested, “Kobuleti (orATC), Inbound Angels 10”. Increases the immersion experience for me. Found that also, because I’m using VSPX, the faster I speak, the better the recognition.

Steps are straightforward. 1). select keyword or phrase to change. 2) add asterisks as desired, before, aft, or both) 3)click “apply” 4)click “Finish” 5) Complete Finish steps for AI Comm in VA window.

The results are intermittent as stated in VA menu, “Your mileage may vary”, but you are still able to use the original word/phrase standalone.
