I currently have a GeForce 7900 GS 256 MB video card but am thinking about upgrading in lieu of Black Shark. I am running Win XP and have no desire to move to Vista.

I've noticed that the current Nvidia 512MB - 1 GB video cards are made for DirectX 10.0 and also state Vista in the specifications. Does that mean that they will not play on a Win XP DirectX 9.0c machine?

Any recomendations? Thanks!

The older 8800s have no probs with XP and the new 9 seires shuld not with the right drivers. and as for the DX10.0 your new card will come with DX10.0a But DCS-BS does not take full advantage of it. I would sujust buying a 9800GTX or better if you can aford it.

Speedbrake,

It's really quite simple - there's no such thing as a "Vista/DX10-only" video card. They all work perfectly fine with both XP/DX9 and Vista/DX10 if they support the latter.

Thanks for the inputs! I shall take them all into consideration. I was concerned when I read a review over on Newegg when the guys new graphics card wouldn't work with his WinXP system. But it may well have been the cpu, not the graphics card. He put it into a different machine that had Vista and it worked fine. Again the main thought here is "a different cpu".
