Use TGP for buddy-lasing etc while not carrying CCRP / Pre weapons

Hello,
i'm new to the 16, so please excuse me, if this is a dumb question.

How would i use the TGP for recon / buddy-lasing etc. while not carrying CCRP weapons that rely on TGP designation?
Let's say i have no AG weapons loaded, or only rocket-pods loaded, which are CCIP only. How could i still utilize the TGP to find targets?

Or in other words. Do i always have to bring at least one CCRP/Pre weapons, to enable using the TGP for designation?

If you're in NAV master mode you can slew the targeting pod around and lase things for him even if you only have rockets.  If you have the Nevada map, this is the aircraft setup that's in the Rockets Instant Action mission (or you could add it in the mission editor). Put the mission on active pause and try it out.  Once you switch to A-G master mode the TGP will be in CCIP mode, but if you stay in NAV you'll be good to go.
