Carbon715 Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 Im not sure if this is correct or not but snowplow mode seems real finicky at best with ag radar. Initiating snowplow I would think the radar would stay facing forward in regards to the aircraft regardless if turning. However, the radar remains facing where SP was iniated until at gimbal limits and stays at gimbal limits until SP is reinitialized or tms up then aft. Quick mission created to demonstrate with track AGRadarSnowplow.trk
ED Team [ED]Ben Posted January 11, 2022 ED Team Posted January 11, 2022 Hi - this looks like it is correct as is - looks like it is working as per the docs. If snowplow is selected with the radar in GM or STBY modes, the FCR cursors (SPI) are commanded to a position ahead of the aircraft ground track at zero azimuth and a distance that is half the selected radar range scale, and the direct aiming option is automatically selected. The cursor remains at this pre-designated position while the ground map video moves or “snowplows” down the display. When the pilot designates, the cursors become ground stabilized and the ground stabilized point becomes the currently selected steerpoint. After a point has been ground stabilized, the cursor can be slewed to other points such as the target or an aimpoint. In A-G mastermode only, all steering cues will change as the cursors are slewed. Designated points are remembered throughout mode changes until a new steerpoint is selected, FCR track is established, or a NAV position update is accomplished. If SP is entered when the radar is off or in A-A modes, the HUD steerpoint diamond and cursor positions are frozen (cannot be slewed/designated) at a point zero azimuth and 5 nautical miles ahead of the aircraft. 2

Ok, I can see that. My issue was that entering snowplow the cursor goes half range 0 azimuth. Now turn 90 deg or so left or right, cursor remains however no map feed ahead of you, is my issue and was curious about it...seems that the radar stays slaved to stpt regardless if in sp or not
Frederf Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 (edited) Pre-designate SP is airplane-fixed. Post-designate SP is centered on the created pseudosteerpoint. In pre-designate SP the SPI is your current real steerpoint. In SP post-designate the SPI is the pseudosteerpoint. Pre-designate SP is working fine with the radar being airplane-fixed except if you change the azimuth setting of the radar. If you change the azimuth setting while in pre-designate SP the radar scan stops being airplane-fixed and goes back to centered on the steerpoint. One should be able to change the azimuth setting in pre-designate SP freely while retaining the "look ahead" nature of the SP scan. Edited January 11, 2022 by Frederf 1 1
Carbon715 Posted January 13, 2022 Author Posted January 13, 2022 Ok that's probably the issue as I go to A3 asimuth which has the radar go to the stpt instead of airplane fixed
