The Billder Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 (edited) Hi all, A group of us recently had some issues hosting a large mission on a server with a capable pc running windows 10 as we got beyond 23-25 players. Those joining after that seemed to get frozen in the loading screen and the server crashed as the number of players approached 28. A repeat of this test (with less people abailable) showed FPS drops for players as we got beyond 20 people but no crashing issues, and again no detectable components of the server or network being over worked. We’ve been told there is a limit to the number of clients beyond 20 or so with windows 10 and we would be better off using a machine running windows server 2019 for high player count missions Can anyone confirm this? Was surprised to see no mention of limitations to number of players in DCS documentation given the server max player limits. And windows 10 is the recommended OS on the dedicated server page. Thanks in advanced for any insight. Billder Edited January 10, 2022 by The Billder
Mike_Romeo Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 (edited) The Growling Sidewinder (dedicated) server is running under windows 10 somewhat stable with 54 players. There is no real limit but ED themself recommend in their readme.txt (DCS/doc folder) file only a maximum of 16 players. ReadMe_EN.txt Edited January 11, 2022 by Mike_Romeo My skins
Maverick87Shaka Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 (edited) "Capable PC" is not really a technical specification to understand what is going on, also an important thing that you must take into account is the bandwidth. Large mission with an high players counts can burn easily up to steady 6Mbps or more, so it's highly recommended to host large player missions only on a good fiber connection. Going to thespecific question about Operating System, Windows 10 has only some limitation in terms of embedded services like file and printing sharing, there is nothing like a general limit on network or concurrent connection, that will be handled by the host application ( in this case DCS server ) Based on our experience, we've hosted multiple times DCS mission with more than 50 players, of course mission must be well tailored with this target in mind. You cannot place 3000 AI groups and 6000 units and hope it will go well Out of curiosity, what is the server machine specification? CPU,RAM,Disk Drive type and connection?
