My version of a poor man's overlay for my throttle. (Button mapping for short memories)

Hello all. I've had the Winwing Orion for a while and just picked up the take off and combat panels. With these panels, the buttons on the throttle base are doubled. I may as well bind them to something else. Since I can't seam to remember what I bound the switches to, I decided to make an overlay to place on it.

My wife has this machine called Cricut. It's a printer/cutter for making decals and crafting. I've never used it before but decided to give it a shot. Here is what I came up with:

For not having a clue what I was doing when I first started, it turned out fairly decent. Yeah, there are a lot of trial and error prints in the recycling bin. Now that I have the template done, it'll be easy to make one for the F16 in the near future. I ended up finding a white gel pen at the craft store. I had to make a small mod for the printer to hold the pen properly. Seams to work well. The font does look a lot sharper to the eye than what my cell phone camera is picking up.

That looks pretty dang good!  My wife has a cricut as well, and I never once thought about using it for this kind of stuff.

Did you use an adhesive, or are they just vinyl/plastic overlays that sit on top of the throttle base?  I use my warthog throttle for all kinds of planes, and I tend to not use the majority of the switchgear because I bounce a lot between modules and cannot be bothered to map & memorize the lesser used functions.

Thanks. I’m using plain old cardstock. I have four little pieces of two sided tape, one in each corner. It’s just enough adhesive to be able to pop it off and back on.

Nice!  I use an even poorer man's solution - cardstock and a labeller with white on black printing.  Not nearly as neat and clean as yours.  This version is for F-16.

Awesome. I love it. I’m really all about functionality. i could have saved myself a lot of hours keeping it simple. When I build my desk, I went for function. It is not pretty. But it really works. Everything is so easy to reach and use. One sheet of MDF. I'm on version 10 by now. Always changing it a little to make it as functional as possible. (Gross. I really need to do some cable management.)

That's freaking genius dude! My wife also has a cricut. I am literally about to order a Winwing HOTAS system but was wondering how I could make it less aircraft specific. Now I know. Thanks! One question though.... Is the overlay just a cricut label, or is it a label on another panel?

I just got my orion2 and love it. Awesome job. Do you have the file for the dimensions? Thank you!

I second the above! I am learning to fly the Mirage F-1 and would love to relabel my  switches. Then do it again when the F-4E gets released!

Nice, I'll be looking into this as well.  What kind of material do you use?  Will it cut and print on plastic laminates?

Thanks
