  1. The options for zoom in VR are limited to "VR Zoom" and "VR Spyglass zoom". Neither work like the zoom functions in pancake. I recall there being a way to modify the zoom level in a LUA file somewhere, but don't recall the details. (I've just accepted and adjusted to it)
  2. Generally speaking they'll show 'pre-order' for items that aren't in 'local' stock. If you look at the international store, it may be in stock and ready to ship from there.... The US store gets restocked in bulk shipments. In my experience, it's a crapshoot whether or not you'll get your order sooner or later than waiting for the US site to show as 'in stock'. My orders that have shipped directly from Shenzhen have taken anywhere between 1 and 3 weeks to the east coast.
  3. You feel like you're finding conflicting information because you probably are.... sort of. Always check the date on info posts, the whole VR thing is moving so fast that changes to hardware and software are practically constant. But just beware, once you're set in VR it's really hard to go back.
  4. Having mostly Winwing controls in my current configuration, I'm looking for opinions on alternatives. While I have had no serious mechanical or software issues with the gear, the last several interactions I've had with the company have ranged between off-putting and wildly maddening. So I'm considering divesting myself of their gear and refitting the simpit. My read on Winwing at this point: The gear is good/great, so long as you NEVER have to interact with them. Thoughts or opinions on alternatives that... 1. Offer good customer service 2. similar (or better) quality 3. offer customization options 4. have solid, mature drivers/software Budget is not the defining factor here. It is always a factor, but quality and customer service mean more to me at this point in my life. thanks!
  5. @frostycab Overkill? Maybe. It depends on how you look at it. You're jumping 5 generations of CPU and a few generations of GPU. My (Gaming PC) philosophy has always been to go as top of the line as I can, and ride it as long as is comfortable. (But that's just me) Interoperability isn't really as much of a thing anymore. So long as the components are architecturally compatible (Check the Mfg specs) you should be fine. The "Silicon lottery" is still a thing, but if you're not planning on deep tuning or overclocking, you'll probably never notice one way or another. Clarification: The CPU/Memory/Motherboard Trinity is where you'll see compatibility constraints (Mfg specs) - GPU, Drives, etc are pretty much a non-factor these days.
  6. Beast of a build sheet. Go big, or go home. I love it. Overclocking will not be required... for a little while at least. Cases are so much personal taste, but for my latest rig, I went with the Corsair 7000D. It is a MONSTER of a case, but more than enough room for anything you want to put in it - And GREAT airflow. But I reiterate... It. Is. HUGE. I'm currently using an Artic Liquid Freezer II 420 and have no complaints. For case fans, I've been using 'Be Quiet!' Silent Wings 4 (140mm) - Nice and quiet and good flow on low speeds.
  7. For me, No... all by touch/muscle memory. I'm currently using a pair of Cougar MFDs and a 4x8 streamdeck programmed as the ICP. I have Braille keyboard markers on specific keys and an image of the mapping on a kneeboard page if I forget. (But at this point, I never really reference it anymore).
  8. Honestly, As an exclusively VR player, I've been eyeing a 'Phoenix MIP' for quite some time. But since I don't spend nearly as much stick time in the Hornet as I do in the Viper, I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. Having a QUICK change ICP/UFC... well... I'll be watching the WW webstore like a hawk...
  9. It's not that it won't work, but it provides a significant performance boost. Right now that's the only 3rd party 'vr' app/mod I run with the aero. It's set and forget.
  10. No intent to enflame things here... but with the 4090 and Aero I'm pretty well locked at 90fps. I've been building gaming rigs for just about as long as they've been around... I'm talking swap meets in MIT parking lots days... and it's always been an arms race between hardware and software. I eventually settled on two core strategies. (Your mileage and situation WILL vary) 1 - Spend money INSIDE the box first, and peripherals second (including displays). 2 - Save longer if I must, but I never invest in last-generation tech to save a buck. It only means it will be underperforming (or obsolete) sooner. I take your point about a 3080 being enough, because it very well can be. At the end of the day this can be a very expensive hobby and the individual must make their own decisions about where their time and resources are spent. I would NEVER advise someone to spend more $ just for the sake of 'shiny and new' but with the speed at which the tech advances, an individual decision must be made that balances cost/performance and longevity. I wholeheartedly agree that the current prices of equipment are INSANE and largely unwarranted for the uplift, but this is not really a new phenomenon. (A hundred dollars for a 16-bit sound card was nuts to me once upon a time) There are only 2 ways to be a perfectly happy PC gamer.... Be independently wealthy, or live within your means and temper your expectations. I lean heavily on the latter.
  11. Having personally owned and used a Quest2, Reverb G2, Quest Pro, and now the Aero (All on the same system) I can say that the Aero outperforms the others without question. Does it have the best FOV? No (About the same as the G2 to my eyes) Is it the most comfortable? No (Quest Pro with Globular Cluster wins that one for me) Does it have aftermarket accessories? No (Quest series has most, Aero has effectively none) But the performance and clarity are amazing. And it achieves this without the need for tweaking 3rd party mods (OXRTK is amazing, and required for the G2/Quests - But turned off for the Aero) With the Aero, the only thing I use is Mbuccia's Varjo Foveated app. It's all subjective, but that's been MY experience. And I'll echo what's been said here before, if you make the jump from pancake to VR, temper your expectations. It WILL require balancing graphics with performance and you need to go with as high-end hardware as you can to have the best experience. 13900K - RTX4090 - 64GB RAM - M2 SSDs
  12. I set up a dedicated server to play around with. Simple missions run great, everything works as expected. But as I've ratcheted up the complexity, I've found that some basic scripting doesn't want to work properly on the dedicated server, whereas it works as expected when I run it locally. Example. I have a mission that starts the player 'takeoff from ramp' and a flight of f-15Es 'takeoff from runway'. On my local machine, the 15's take off in formation as the mission starts, but on the dedicated server one is parked in the middle of the runway and the other 3 are in the parking area... None of them even attempt to move. Same file, same 'version' of DCS, different behavior. Can anyone point me in the right direction to figure this out? thanks!
  13. I've had my Aero for 2 weeks now and I can say that I'm very much enjoying the performance. I started with a Quest 2, then Reverb G2, then Quest Pro, and now the Aero... and I can say without any hesitation whatsoever that it is head and shoulders above all of those from a performance perspective. But it is the bottom of the pile in overall comfort. (For MY melon, the Globular Cluster kit for the Quest Pro wins the prize) My Doctor likes to joke that even though I'm past the half-century mark, I still have the skin of a teenager. Meaning that my skin really does not like to be in contact with some materials for any length of time... especially things like 'pleather'. In the past, the first thing I did was order a fabric-based facial interface. Come on Varjo, for the price you charge for your interfaces, a mesh option would be very considerate. I found that one of the mesh interfaces for my Quest 2 can replace the interface pretty easily, although the Q2 is more oval than the Aero and it doesn't quite line up. Does anyone know of another one that might fit better? I have not found anyone that makes anything for it, at all. Studioform makes the velcro strap and counterweights that go on the existing headstrap, but that doesn't alter the mechanical aspects of the strap system itself. I get that it's a niche product in a niche category, but the utter lack of 3rd party accessories for the Aero is definitely the biggest downside to consider when weighing a potential purchase.
