Is it possible to drop Smoke / Marker flares from the Huey?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to throw or drop a marker while flying? Is it possible for a gunner to toss one whilst flying multicrew?

If not, is there any other way to place a marker other than using the theatre map?

The only "marker" you have are WP rockets I believe and illumination flare rockets.

Thank you Razo+r,

I'm fairly new to the weapons and defenses. Can I ask what WP's are (or do you mean way point?) Would I launch both of these as countermeasures as one would with flares? Do they hang in the air or sit on the ground (how long would they stay illuminated?)

WP is White Phosphorus (white smoke) 

No, they are not ment as countermeasures. 

 

WP rockets are simply rockets with WP as a warhead instead of HE or anything else. So you fire them where you want to hit and then you will have smoke at that place. The smoke will last a few minutes.

 

As for the illumination flare rockets, its almost the same principle. You launch them into the air towards the target from a specific distance at a certain angle into the air. After that distance (~5-6km), they will release the illumination flare that slowly falls to the ground. They stay illuminated for I believe 1 minute or so.
