PiMax 8KX

DCS World worked fine when I had everything set up with the PiMax 8KX, now it will not get past the loading screen or even start.

 

I have done default resets, and repair with DCS still will not load.

freezes at 6% and 331MB.

so some reason it started working, now none of the motion smoothing works! tried only steam, tried only Pimax, then both nothing is smoothing out the picture its just constantly jitters!!

Well gave this 2 days, and cant even recommend it, motion smooth doesnt work, in Pi tool or the Steam VR.

 

I'm going back to Reverb G2.

 

Even the Steam when it 1st started playing the PiMax its was butter smooth, with max settings, at 4192x per eye, 8k rendered. then for some reason I start the rig this morning, nothing works. the resolution in steam dropped to 3k and nothing is working.

I can say the 1 day it worked fine the FOV was incredible, 115 for DCS World was great! compared to the G2 90. 

The scene while in-the sim was monitor quality.

 

and the other game not allowed to mention,  didn't want to start above 4K, I had to render it down to 3100k, per eye. and then it was blurry.

 

so I'm guessing in the next 5 years it will probably work; but the way prices are; it may be 10 years away to really spend the amount of a small car to get a good rig.

I had a similar issue when I got a new PC with Windows 11....I turned off HAGS and I think this solved my issue.Have a look at this thread....

I think Steam VR is downloading an update. It's pesky that way.  

Make sure you have automatic context switching off in WMR (ie so you have to manually have to press Win-y to switch mouse from desktop to HMD context) -- weird bugs if you leave it to "auto"

Sorry you had a bad experience with the 8K.  It's what we all want, I think; that famous Pimax FOV and G2 level central resolution.  Shudder to think what kind of hardware it would take to drive it at native resolution.

Anyone know how to switch off motion smoothing in the 8kx? The option does not seem to be available on my Pimax client app. However it does show motion smoothing is on in the bottom left corner, but I cannot switch it off (the closed icon is white and cannot be switched)

Use the latest PimaxXR (ver 0.4.0), there is an option to switch compulsive smoothing on/off when you open the app.

I tried that but it still seems to show in the Pimax play app that smart smoothing is enabled! A bit frustrating but I think I’ll have to delve into the config file and try disable there perhaps.

Smart smoothing not the same as compulsive smoothing.  Smart smoothing can only be enabled in Pimax client and does not work very well as transition between full and 1/2 FPS causes stutters.   Did you try to enable a game specific profile and uncheck the smart smoothing box there?

I loved the FOV of the 8KX, but the jankyness of the pimax software turned me off. Randomly crashing, or tracking starting to shake, etc. 

 

It was just too much. Pimax simply promises too much and continuely fails to deliver.

Sorry to hear that.  Your experience, not mine.  Only issue was with my 8k+ cable that was replace fairly quickly.  the 8kx has been flawless but it sure needs a lot of tweeking and a beasty rig to get the best out of it.
