Hey guys, I'm having some issues with vaicom and contacting ground crew. When I start the game I try to use comms but radios in vaicom are greyed out except for aux and intercom. What's more, when I click my uhf radio (or any radio) the F10 comms menu doesn't open (I use comms window to help remember some voice commands)

Any ideas what's going on?

To add to this, if I don't run vaicom the F10 and Radio menus work again so I can talk to ground crew. So issue is with software or I'm missing a setting

That's right in line how it is supposed to work.

As long as the Jet is cold and dark, the Radios are turned off, and you have to use the Intercom to talk to the ground crew. As soon as the Jet comes alive, the other two radios become available, but you have still to use Intercom to talk to the crew. Make sure you assigned the correct PTT buttons (3 needed for the F-14)

The menu is also supposed to not pop up. If you still want menus, you have to do the appropriate setting in the VAICOM setup. Other than that, there is the way of the keyword "options" which will open the com menu and you being able to navigate it with "take 1 ... "

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have the setting, disable menus turned off so I should still be getting menu pop ups when I use the intercom but I dont

Did you set up your PTTs right. If you check in the Vaicom config gui, what does it say which radio you are operating.?

Another thing, did it worked before or is it your first try to get it running?

Hey first time setup.

I've Tx1 set to UHF Arc 159 - Thats greyed out and if i click it, it doesn't activate the mic

I've Tx2 set to arc 182

I've ics set to intercom - this transmits but none of the mic commands open the communications menu. But if i set a different key (thats not linked to the vaicom Tx1 tx2 ect) it does open the comms menu.

That's the way I have set it up:

As you can see, it's totally normal for the radios to be greyed out during the Tomcat still dark and cold

As soon as power and radios are on, the radios come alive in VAICOM as well

You want to make sure you have all the relevant PTTs mapped in VAICOM

3.png

As soon as everything is mapped you should see the listening resumed listening suss pended lines in VAICOM consistent with your press and release of the relevant PTT

For the use of SRS I have also mapped the PTTs in the keybindings

That's not right. "Disable menu" turns off the menus that DCS would otherwise open. But VAICOM does not open them itself. So if you call the ground crew using one of the TX keys, and it is not bound to anything in DCS, then the menus are not supposed to open.

Hey man, really appreciate all the help. So looking at your setup there was something strange going on with mine. I reinstalled and it seems to behave a bit better (i can talk to crew chief via intercom now) If i bind the TX buttons to mic buttons in DCS the menu still won't open, regardless of settings in vaicom. Its a bit annoying but once i learn the commands it won't matter much 🙂

So what i wanted was to have the TX button mapped to the corresponding mic in DCS, so when i clicked to use vaicom then the menu in DCS would open. as well This works in the fa18 but not in the f14. Its a little annoying as I was hoping to use it as training wheels but its not the end of the world 🙂
