On my vkb gladiator nxt, the analog stick is dual function. the center press is like a mode switch. It’s an analog stick but if u press the center button, it switches to an 8way hat and if u press it again, it switches back to analog.

can this be configured with the alpha thumb analog stick?

I'm new to the software but that sounds like a cool feature. I looked for a bit but I couldn't see how to do it.

Me either. I’m hoping havoc will chime in. If it can be done, he’s definitely one of the people who will know how.

I wonder if there’s a way to tag him in the post. 🤔

You can use axis to buttons to map the stick to function more as a hat, but I don't think there is a way to use the depress as a toggle to change it's behavior. You could have the stick setup as an axis as normal, and then use the depress as a modifier in DCS to only trigger the axis to buttons commands when it is depressed.

That’s what I did initially but I use joystick gremlin so I figured out how to do it in there.  I ended up doing something even better. I made it toggle to mouse xy and then on the other side of the toggle it’s axis to button. Also in mouse mode, the trigger switches to the left clock and the pinky modifier makes it right click. The scroll wheel on the stick is set to be an actual scroll wheel so the times I’m flying in VR, I have full mouse control without taking the headset off or touching the mouse.  It worked out pretty sweet.
