It's not really a heading hold anymore than trimming a Huey with pedal to maintain a heading and it being called "heading hold". No, it’s not. The force trim maintains the pedal position, the heading hold system captures and attempts to hold the heading of the aircraft when the system was “updated” by the pilot pressing the force trim release button. If you’re on a 360 heading it will attempt to hold that 360 heading. Apply left pedal greater than the values cited by raptor and heading hold will disengage until you go below those thresholds, after which point it will capture that heading and attempt to maintain it. So if you did a 90 degree left pedal turn and stopped at 090, it will attempt to hold 090. Assuming a no wind scenario, your force trimmed pedal position will be the same as it was when you were holding the 360 heading. Edited March 23, 2022 by bradmick 3
dresoccer4 Posted March 25, 2022 Author Posted March 25, 2022 Having some trouble getting the Heading Hold to work. it seems to be working on initial hover. once I'm a few feet above the ground and relatively trimmed out, the heading will indeed hold. However say I want to turn 90 degrees to the right, what is the procedure for that? Because if I press right pedal far enough then you overcome the heading hold and turn towards the right, however if I stop myself at the exact heading and press trim, after releasing the trim the helicopter keeps trying to spin either direction and won't hold the heading. it'd be great if someone did a video on the heading hold (and other SAS systems) to really see what's supposed to be pressed. maybe there's one out there already and i haven't found it Acer Predator Triton 700 || i7-7700HQ || 512GB SSD || 32GB RAM || GTX1080 Max-Q || FFB II and Thrustmaster TWCS Throttle || All DCS Modules
ED Team Raptor9 Posted March 25, 2022 ED Team Posted March 25, 2022 BigNewy mentioned that an updated control indicator overlay might be coming soon, so it will be easier to demonstrate what is happening in the SCAS system when/if that comes out.
