CrashMeTwice Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 (edited) Hi to all Pilots, hope you are all doing well and having a great day! My new project is to install a steering damper to the VIRPIL WarBRD Rudder Pedals. I have seen a video somewhere here or on YouTube featuring a Ka-50 cockpit walk through but can't find it anymore. It showed in detail on how the rudders work. If someone has seen this video as well, please add a link. I also have looked at a MI-8 heli with a similar system and wonder if this system carries over to other models. How it worked was: If the Pilot pushes a button on the left side middle panel the rudders a dampened, pushed again the rudders are free (non-resistive) in movement and I want to duplicate that. In my new project I started out by making a damper mount to attach to my WarBRD rudders for use on my T-Slot profiles. I am currently trying to work out on how to achieve the button actuated system as I saw in this video. I have some ideas but if you have some input on that I would appreciate you comment. I had a lot of fun building this within the last two weeks. Please check it out and let me know what you think. Edited March 22, 2022 by CrashMeTwice duplicate sentence 4
CrashMeTwice Posted April 18, 2022 Author Posted April 18, 2022 For those of you which have modded your pedals with a steering damper I would love to know what your preferred setting is. From a scale of 0 to 10 (10 being the hardest). I am running mine at about 6 (a bit over medium).
haaaake Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Would love to try to integrate a damper like this on my Ace Torq pedals. It does seem like it might have a few could mounting points for it. Man would be so nice if Virpil would offer damper kits directly.

I think their new system has some sort of damper but I am not sure if this is spring based or fluid. I finally finished my project! Take a look here.. 3
CrashMeTwice Posted May 2, 2022 Author Posted May 2, 2022 Working on the next video featuring the switch-box I have put together to control the damper bypass valve I have made for the VIRPIL WarBRD Rudder Pedals Damper Mod. I am utilizing a Arduino Pro Micro, a step-down buck controller, trim-pots, and a relay to control the position of a standard high torque servo. I am using an switched USB hub and wanted the entire system to come alive when the rudder pedals become active. If anyone is interested I can also post a complete schematic (wiring diagram) and the code for the Aduino. Let me know. 1

CrashMeTwice Posted June 26, 2022 Author Posted June 26, 2022 I finally finished the switch-box for the WarBrd. All is working and I am just pleased on how everything works now. Next on my Simpit list is a control panel "wall" in front of my KA-50 Virpil box to integrate the toggle switch and maybe some more add-ons. I You can check it out here: and here is the diagram for it for anyone interested: 2
