KoalaDoraemon Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Good day all, In the "Altitude" mission; [ one of the stock single player missions that come with the Black Shark], I keep getting tagged by MANPADS in the climb when I'm escorting the 4 Mi-8's. I tried the countermeasure setting of "018" for one side as per the mission briefing but that did jack. I tried "028" instead, and that too released from BOTH sides and I managed to defeat the first MANPAD, but the second one tags me anyway, since by then countermeasures have run out. "028" with bilateral countermeasure release isn't exactly economical in terms of flares Any tips please, my fellow ace Ka-50 pilots? Funny thing this, the Mi-8s have never been hit. Thanks friends
MAXsenna Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Oh! Need to replay this mission then as I've never never been attacked. Haven't played for a couple of years though. Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk
KoalaDoraemon Posted April 26, 2022 Author Posted April 26, 2022 Yep, i remembered playing this way back when and then the only issue was the flaming the engine if you didnt look after it in the climb. I didnt get tagged then either. Sure I guess you could just tag the MANPADs yourself before they tag you. I never needed to do that before as well. Do give the mission a go and let me know your thoughts Max. Cheers. 1
MAXsenna Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Yeah, I will. And you're absolutely right. My main problem was always engine failure. Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk
MAXsenna Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Right. I did test, and yes. There were manpads.I took from the FARP, and when we climbed and the Hips were all gone, I had my winmang trail and cover me, like suggested in the notes. (Forgot to start the program though...), and suddenly he was evading, and eventually went down.I got to the Hips after they landed and disembarked the troops. And on the way back, up in the mountains, suddenly two of them was shot down as well. At least two were gone from the map, but I could only see one wreck. Then as I got back to the other two, I snapped my Rotors again. Anyway, there must be some changes to this mission, or it might have just started working after some updates to the core. Who knows. And I think there was some radio comms I haven't heard before. But again, it might be three or more years since I last tried this mission.I need to revisit my cold start procedure, as it was really hard, from memory, to get in the air the same time as the Hips. Tip. I saw your other post about comms in the other thread. It's working fine, but you start tuned to your wingman (124.000), which is wrong, as the Hips are tuned to the same frequency as the FARP. 127.500. Change the frequency and your good.I use VAICOM, so it's easy hands off. I might go into the ME and change it for me and the wingman, as you get some others comms from the Hips as well.Cheers! KoalaDoraemon Posted April 27, 2022 Author Posted April 27, 2022 Thanks for the detailed reply Max. Good on you mate! My start up is fine sequence is fine, I actually take off before the Hips and theres more than enough time to climb to altitude, I lag behind them though. I had my wingman in trail formation and cover me as well. But I always get tagged in the climb. wingman didnt get hit initially but gets shot to hell when he went after the MANPADS after I went down Maybe my climb profile is off, but its definitely better than it was years ago and I didnt have these MANPADS issues before as well. What climb profile do you use btw? I start Low and slow [just like the mission audio advises us to] over the city i'm basically at NOE at 250 kph and I'm in front of the Hips, but when the climb starts they catch up and overtake. I start climbing where the forest on the slopes starts just after the city. Thanks for the input on the FARP comms as well. What I as alluding to as well is the FARPs not responding and acknowledging by turning on their lights when you contact them for landing even if you're on 127.5 -this happends with any mission with FARPS you take off/land at. It's been like this for quite some time though. Cheers and thanks again brother. 1
MAXsenna Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Right! I didn't get back, but I did call inbound and received a reply from Vetka.I use VAICOM, a plugin for VoiceAttack that use the export.lua and not keybinds. Might be it.Anyway, didn't really have a "climb profile" as I was too slow to start, and so far behind, (hopefully this will be better when the new GFM is released, if it will be for helicopters too that is), when I started climbing, basically over the city. But my winger was at my altitude when I he was attacked, outside of the city, above the first hill, which I got warned about. Too bad you can't order your winger to start the same program, and when. What bugs me was the manpads up in the mountains though. Didn't expect them there. Will play this mission more after a i refurbish my skills a little in the Shark!
