Brevity "Mudspiked"

Recommended Posts

I am not sure if this is the correct forum location for this question but I hope that it is.

Is there a brevity call "Mudspike"? I cannot find that neither in NATO "JOINT BREVITY WORDS PUBLICATION" nor in "MULTI-SERVICE TACTICS, TECHNIQUES, AND PROCEDURES FOR MULTI-SERVICE BREVITY CODES" documents.

There is Mud and there is spiked but not a combination of them. So is DCS AI using its own creation or there is really such brevity code but not well documented?

Thanks in advance

Short answer? No, there is not.

Long answer, it is an inaccurate amalgamation of two separate brevity terms "Mud" and "Spike" into one.  They both mean that a threat warning system (like an RWR) is receiving indications that a hostile radar is locked onto the aircraft, but "Mud" indicates the aircraft is being locked by a surface-to-air system and "Spike" means that the aircraft is being locked by an air-to-air system from another aircraft.

Likewise, the terms "Dirt" and "Nails" mean similar states of RWR indication, except "Dirt" is for surface-to-air threat radars and "Nails" is for air-to-air threat radars.

DIRT = RWR indication of a S/A threat in SEARCH

MUD = RWR indication of a S/A threat in TRACK

SINGER = RWR indication of a S/A threat LAUNCH

--

NAILS = RWR indication of a A/A threat in SEARCH

SPIKE = RWR indication of a A/A threat in TRACK or LAUNCH

--

They should not be conjoined together and is purely a DCSism, would never be done real world (and if the error was made it would be debriefed as it is incorrect)
