G1bbeh Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 bought the campaign. just a quick note to say hope you're updating the voice overs as they're kinder offensive to my ears. have to expect better than that. will put me off buying other campaigns. really should get a review system in place 1

Here has been some conversation about the topic. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/299771-bugs-issues/?do=findComment&comment=4961127
Antonisrho Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 (edited) Same here - extremely disappointed with the quality. So far missions are mediocre (just flying in circles mostly and I'm up to mission 4. I quit because I was bored) and the robotic voices are terrible. I have found far more interesting free campaigns out there. I once had a go to create a campaing of my own using google text-to-speech and it was far better - I even bothered to do audio editing to make it look more authentic with radio voice distortion...I enjoyed making and playing that campaign but I wouldn't dare releasing it even for free! And to find that I had to buy something that inferior is really....offensive! Lt_Jaeger Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Most probably there is no way to please everyone. I, for example, hate these airquake mission. You take off and bam...5000 enemies to be shot down by a single player aircraft. I really enjoying the missions so far. There is so much going on, that I struggle to keep SA all the time. If you would bother to check, even so I might not doing anything tactical in the moment, there is suddenly <profanity> hitting the fan and I bet you don't grasp a 100% whats going on where and who is doing what in that second. For me it is part of the immersion that I'm not alone and that other flights are busy engaging stuff while I'm in a quiet corner. That said, sure there is room for improvement, the voice over are talked about already, but I would not call it offensive to play missions which would happen in a real life cyclic ops cycle. Maybe a disclaimer for "Attention - real life like ops- you might get bored" might be in order. 3
Antonisrho Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 (edited) Don't get me wrong, I'm not a trigger happy player seeing DCS as an arcade game! For example, one of the most beautiful and immersive campaigns I played is Fear the Bones. There's a lot of just flying there with - as you call real life like ops - but there was a lot of high quality dialogue and stuff happening in the background building tension etc.... and that's what made it an awesome campaing! Indeed it comes down to immersion and you are spot on with other flights and parallel operations happening in other campaings with inter-dependencies. Something that so far is missing here and makes me feel I'm just flying in circles listening to robotic chatter. Maybe it improves as missions are progressed but so far I got really bored in mission 4. Lt_Jaeger Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 (edited) I'm with you, the computer voice is a total immersion killer. If you mentally put that aside, it gets better. After the first 2 missons, actually after 10 sec of the first, hearing that terrible computer, I was ready to trash the campaign, but if you manage to get this into the background of your mind (very hard, I still cringe) and open up to what's going on, I think you could enjoy. From the mission design standpoint, I like the campaign so far (stuck due to lack of time currently), but you have to really be open to spend the time denoted on the briefing screen. If you are in a hurry, better don't start, it will get to the point where you are ready to quit due to "nothing going on". Since you mentioned Fear of the Bones, I consider the cap mission where really nothing happens for what, 30 minutes, one of the best. You are capping and you know they are out there, just nothings happen. If you give it a chance, you will have the same in this campaign - minus the great voice acting, concur. That said, I only play if I'm up for a potential 1,5h of boredom, even so I was never bored, besides what I would have been doing the real thing (and I can pause and take a leak ;).) There has been discussion about voice over quality and according to feedback there really is thing to be improved for next campaign. I just have to decide best way to do it taking into account challenges talked in other topic below. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/299771-bugs-issues/?do=findComment&comment=4961127 About missions you have found boring. It has been balancing between playability with much of action and realism and I know very well that balance I have chosen will not satisfy all players. That balance rather reflects my own view about military aviation. Lots of flying and some action once in a while. To avoid offending anyone with mission design or voiceovers and so on there has been video about mission 5 in Youtube well before release. Even if video has been made about preliminary version of the campaign you can get quite realistic view about mission design and voiceovers. https://youtu.be/h5IYjoUVscY. Also trailer video in DCS e-shop is made with voice overs from the campaign.
