fox_111 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I'm not very knowledgeable of the geo-political state of Russia vs Georgia and it's neigbors. Anyone local of those regions could tell me what kind of conflicts or historical battle could take place in those regions? I did some reserches about the Georgian-russian war that we saw on tv this year, but that region is not detailled in Black Shark. Any other real world conflict going on in the current BS map that I could check out and replicate in the mission editor?
arneh Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 (edited) Mostly various insurgents causing trouble there nowadays. In addition to South Ossettia, you've also got Abkhazia and Adjaria, all regions that have tried to gain independence. There are some more troublespots just outside the map modelled in DCS, but who's to say some of them might not spread in a hypotetical campaign :) Russian troublespot Chechnya is just to the north east of the map in DCS. Nagorniy-Kharabakh is just to the East, and not too far to the west you have Moldova where a Soviet army refused to leave and claimed independence after the USSR collapsed. And on the Turkish side you've got Turks vs. Kurdish conflict. ACIG has some quite indepth analysis of most of these conflicts, particulary the airwar part of it, so go read about it at http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/cat_index_12.shtml Here's a map of the regions which have tried to gain independence from Georgia, and you can also see Chechnya in the top right: Edited December 31, 2008 by arneh 1
fox_111 Posted December 31, 2008 Author Posted December 31, 2008 Tanx a buch mate! That information and link is very eye opening! I'll read up on it. I wonder if Russians contruct heliport bases in country to avoid the long flights to the frontline. When I'm making missions that take place more than 1h away from the Russian border, I make a small helicopter base with supply and protection, so I don't have to fly forever to get to my target.
haigotron Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 The southern part of Georgia, the Akhalkalak region has a similar situation with Armenia as does South Ossetia with Russia, minus the fighting of course. During the Soviet era, that part of Armenia was joined to Georgia.
