Dogmanbird Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Hi, has anyone recently received any Virpil orders valued at less than $1000, to Aus without being held at customs and affected by the 35% tax? Cheers
DishDoggie Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 Wow sorry it is like that. Silver lining to this is when the guys in the Customs Department get done playing with your new gear before you.... you're going to love it.

Cheers IIRC - I'm fairly sure when I ordered it didn't get held up at customs. I thought the 35% tax was gone decades ago- that it's now 10% GST + 5% customs duty for items more than $1,000 anyway?
MustangSally Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 Where in the world did you get 35% from? rob10 Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 This was from the Virpil forums in April of this year. Not sure what the final implementation/implications are as I'm not in Australia so it doesn't really effect me. Virpil will be hit by the new import tax. See here: https://sanctionsnews.bakermckenzie.com/australia-to-increase-tariffs-for-products-from-belarus-and-russia-and-introduces-new-luxury-goods-export-sanctions-for-russia/ Distribution from Lithuania will not be able to circumvent the rules set out by Australia. "the last process in the manufacture of the goods was performed in Russia or Belarus. Minimal operations or processes, such as changing packing or breaking up or assembly of packages, that occur outside of Russia or Belarus are taken not to be a process in the manufacture of the goods." So the import tax will be 40% (5% existing + the 35% new tax) and then GST 10% on top. The additional tax will be imposed until October 2022 for now.
MustangSally Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 Just checked the legislation.....no longer in force 1 Ryzen 9 7950X3D - MSI MAG X670E TomaHawk MB, ASUS ROG Ryujin III 360 AIO 64gig Corsair DDR5@6000, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 AORUS Winwing Super Taurus, Orion2, TO / Combat panels, Collective with Topgun MIP Winwing Skywalker pedals, NLR Boeing Mil Edition Simpit, 55" Samsung Odyssey Ark, Trackir
Dangerzone Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Yowsers. I had no idea. Thankfully I didn't order anything during that time. That's 35% plus the existing 5% + 10% GST - which makes it 50% tax!! This no longer in force as of yesterday - but any orders between April and yesterday would be hit hard. Sorry to hear Dogmanbird - that's real tough on you!
Dogmanbird Posted October 25, 2022 Author Posted October 25, 2022 (edited) Gees, I was so close to cancelling the order too. Thank you for your thoughts Edited October 25, 2022 by Dogmanbird
