Aircraft Carriers and Planes

Good Afternoon everyone

I am very new to this (2 weeks) and I am trying to learn working with aircraft carriers and planes. I purchased the South Atlantic map along with some other maps, planes and bundles to get me kicked off

I seem to be able to get the 4 harriers to take off from the Invincible carrier and then go and do stuff, however when they land it seems that if empty the land vertically and then roam around the deck while other stuff lands on them, if they have stores they do a short landing which seems to work but again the taxiing is an issue, the 1st plane to land moves a bit then chocks the wheels and the second plane smacks it. Am I doing something wrong?? Or is the AI a little weak landing??

 

Also I seem to be able to use only 4 planes per carrier is this correct I am sure I have seen videos with more?? Again it is perhaps me being a newbie

You are creating your own missions? Already? There are a lot of missions that come w/ DCS. You get more when you buy a map or when you buy a plane. I am not sure I understand your problem.

The AI does seem to have some issues with take offs and landing when using large amounts of aircraft and different types on the deck. And as far as I can tell you are correct that aircraft weight affects how the aircraft will land and take off, STOL vs VTOL or STOVL. The are different issues for both stock (official ships) and MOD ships and how both stock/Mod aircraft perform. Most if not all MOD carriers do not seem to support AI aircraft in large number as their creators  made the ability for a player to fly and land a priority which makes total sense.

I've been working on updated lua files for many MOD carrier to add AI capabilities and here is a good guide to how the stock ships and aircraft should perform.
