Brute Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 (edited) Say what you will, but I had to do a doubletake when I saw the RPK-6 Vodopad launches - I was expecting a normal torpedo! So surrealistic! Impressive as heck! Edited January 9, 2009 by Brute
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Always thought the Udaloys were pretty ships. The internal camera shots of the electronics fit, radar displays, etc - all very 1970's looking though..... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....

jpm1 Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 what is the thing at 2:50 ? at 5:19 the torpedoe and ballistic missile are the same thing ? the sunburn launch's impressive SU-25 missions [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Alfa Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 (edited) what is the thing at 2:50 ? Russian medium to large displacement warships use the PK-2 and PK-10 countermeassure systems, which fire rockets producing chaff(to decoy active radar homing missiles) or/and an aerosol cloud to protect the ship against thermal/optical homing missiles. .. at 5:19 the torpedoe and ballistic missile are the same thing ? No I think the first launch is a torpedo, while the second is an ASW missile(not ballistic), which is incapsulated so that it can be launched from the(533 mm) torpedo tubes. Edit: viewing the video again, I can see that both launches are Vodopad missiles. Edited January 14, 2009 by Alfa JJ
RvETito Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 What is that? No word for the Ka-27PL submarine hunter? :D It's the most important firepower of that ship :) Man that sound brought some memories... "See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is. If you don't know you shouldn't be flying." - Chuck Yeager, from the back seat of F-15D at age 89. =RvE=
Alfa Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Hehe yeah they(Udaloy class vessels can carry two of them) are definately important for the purpose of the ship, but so are the Zvezda-2 sonar suite, RPK-6 ASW missile- and Udav-1 anti-torpedo systems :) . The Udaloy-II class is really jam-packed with weapons systems - in addition to the above it has the Moskit SSM + both Kinzhal and Kortik AD systems. JJ
Vekkinho Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Always thought the Udaloys were pretty ships. The internal camera shots of the electronics fit, radar displays, etc - all very 1970's looking though..... Yeah, the more absurd is that there's only one of Udaloy-II (Adm. Chabanenko #650). The Udaloy-II class is really jam-packed with weapons systems - in addition to the above it has the Moskit SSM + both Kinzhal and Kortik AD systems.Same here! I posted this link over at the other thread on Somali pirates bu no harm in double post on a good maritime vessels database!
