How Program parking brake F18 Orion HOTAS

Recommended Posts

I have a Orion HOTAS and everything is programmed just fine, but I can't seem to figure out how to set the parking brake.  The parking brake has programming options in DCS such as CW, CCW, Pull and Push.  It looks like you need a combo of two of those to engage and disengage the parking brake.

Anyone point me in the right direction on how to do that?

Even though the Orion throttle base is Hornet-inspired, it is not necessarily meant to be specifically used for the Hornet.

So long story short…you can not really use the Parking Brake switch for the Hornet as is…

@Phantom711 Is correct, the two-way switch on the Orion doesn't really work for the parking brake on the Hornet (it does for the Tomcat tho, ironically enough).

I experimented with a lot of permutations and keybinds and, short of running a macro, never found something I liked, so I stick to clicking the cockpit version (not ideal in VR, but oh well).

I will say, I'd rather have that switch available for other functions anyway, so, while it's a bummer to not have a dedicated parking on the Orion, it's not the end of the world by any means.

I bound one of those switches to OBOGS, so I don't have to turn the pilot model off in order to flip it. This is generally what I do with the base buttons, I just put on whatever is the most useful to have in there.

If you don't want to create a macro using some other software, simplest solution would be to bind it to Wheel Brake. The brake pedals will be held down for as long as the switch is flipped
