Hey Everybody,

As per the title I am looking for find out how a 2080Ti fairs with DCS 2.8 and a Reverb G2 say @50% resolution in a complex mission with med to low settings..

I have a chance to get a good 2080Ti at a decent price and would like to know if the FPS would be there.. I am currently using a 1070GTX and yes I get the barre minimum in FPS like 30-45 most times.. so please enlightne me as I found no new FPS thread with this combo and 2,.8. I need to use 2.8 as the base as it is what I use and the old FPS I got where higher in 2.7 so those vids do me no good..

thank you

I had a 3080 and it was ok.  Pretty sure 2080ti is gonna be quite limiting / frustrating for the G2.  VR needs good resolution... cutting it will be very frustrating and spotting anything will be a hard task.   And of course DCS evolves and every iteration is a little bit slower / more demanding (aka v2.8) so life expectancy of 2080ti in VR is counted.

It is workable but you have to make compromises.

I got pretty good results with my 3070 (a touch slower when stock than a 2080ti) and could generally keep 50-60 fps.  If you're happy to use reprojection then you're laughing as you should be able to hold >45Hz with pretty high setting.  I did overclock the tits off my 3070 so bear that in mind regarding the following: -

With the 3070 I would run openxr at 2400-2600 wide resolution, medium textures*, generally medium settings and no msaa.  This was without reprojection, enabling it I could push most things up a bit.  If you use upscaling then you'll gain a bit more overhead, I could get up to around 80fps at best but I'm not keen on the aliasing/shimmer caused by the upscaling.

*The 2080ti (11gb and 352 bit wide bus) will likely run high without problems but with the 3070 (8gb and 256 bit wide bus) it caused some slowdowns).

With the 3080ti I can now run MSAA, higher resolution and high settings whilst getting around 75fps average.  The current state of terrain shadows with 2.8 causes me a 4-5ms frametime hit so I turn them off, in 2.7 I had them on flat; the rest of my settings between 2.7 and 2.8 are the same and I have pretty much identical performance.

Well I am not worrying about getting the highest settings. I look at it this way I am currently running a 1070 which ranks like 69th in GPUs the 2080ti ranks 13th speed wise out of all the cards..

I am imaging with the 2080ti I could at least increase the resolution. I am not worring about cranking the other settings that dont do much as far as the overall looks of the game increasing the resolution I use on the G2 is the utmost importance. I am looking to at least run in the 50%res mode or a little higher..

Right now I am @35% and it looks about the least I would want to set it too much lower and the mfd's are unreadable even in the apache. of course unless I zoom in and sometimes it is not possible to zoom and type.. So I was just hoping someone still used a 2080ti with the G2 and could tell me what kind of FPS they get or if they could test it @ 50% with the lowest settings in DCS..

I am pretty confident it will be a boost how much and would it be worth the 400USD I would have to spend.. I know get a better GPU but right now even spending 400 usd is gonna be a bit of a trick as I am in the middle of a move and money is super tight..

Maybe I should tough it out a little longer and see if I can nab a 3090 or even a 3080ti.. but money is tight and why spend twice the price for only minimal gains. I am just trying to guage where I will be as I know if I still only got 40-45fps in game with Open XR that would be fine as the minnimum I can stand is 35fps..
