Yuya6104 Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 as noted in preveus thread ive readed before but havent said anythng about it. Ka-50 does use a/a as a self-defence weapon it only carrys igla or Archer. but in the russian figrame off Mil website only reports that carrys 2x igla's on the wing tip's shown below.
GGTharos Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 As noted in previous threads, THE Ka-50 DOES NOT USE GUIDED AIR TO AIR WEAPONS. In situations where an Air to Air engagement is necessary, the weapon used is the Vikhr or canon. spyda Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 think of it as a flying tank not a tool for air to air combat. HP TouchSmart IQ816 / 25.5" HD touch screen / 9600GS 512/ Core 2 Duo 2.16 / 4GB RAM / VISTA 64 / CH Fighterstick
Yuya6104 Posted January 14, 2009 Author Posted January 14, 2009 true all these..this Ka-50 is on fact a Close Air Support machine an an not reglary a tank killer. since in the sim takes two vickers blow up a MBT. only tank destroyer fits are Mil Mi-24 an Mil Mi-28. even a Russian combat pilots would say so to. for Ka-50 this a machine for Close Air Support an lacks on rang 460km yes its not a a/a machine correct but still carrys a/a for defence. the Victor is not a a/a missle also lacks manuverablity hit its target in air. but fireing vikior missle on a ground target much more effective since ground targets are less manuverable. so what your saying is that Ka-50 should be defenceless against air threats an paint a bulleye on machine says i want to die. comon Ka-50 pilots dont want go down with there ship with nothing to defend against fast movers or AH-1 has sidewinders that blow him down at 4km away.. this modern part of every pilot survivle. its better stay live to fight another day. taxitics change everyday an is never the same. an if your aiming for realism then you probbly misundertood Ka-50 purpose in combat. you made the modern Ka-50 but old Ka-50 from the cold war only had gunpods , rockets , vikior an 30mm cannon. modern Ka-50 up there on that digrame. but must say that this sim that you made of Ka-50 is the holy grail an love it every min of flying her to combat an back.:)
AlphaOneSix Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 yes its not a a/a machine correct but still carrys a/a for defence. No it doesn't. If you notice, the wingtips are already in use for another system, and you obviously can't mount anything on them (same for AH-64A).
Sunjah Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 I've seen in a few places (military sites, info sites) that the Ka-50 can use A-A missles. I wonder why the change occurred. I believe DCS has been very thorough, so if their chopper doesn't have it, I bet the real one doesn't either. I wonder why, though, or why some places say it can (maybe early in construction, then changed?) and does use Air-to-Air if it does not. Strange. I know I used to have fun with my old helicopter sims with wingtip missles. Maybe they took liberties putting them there, but I enjoyed them!!! Remember, on Nov. 4th, vote for Black Shark for President!!!
AlphaOneSix Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 It's marketing. The manufacturer will say "Hey, look at what we can do!" But when it comes down to doing it, the military says "That's all fine and dandy, but go ahead and leave that one thing off when you build it for us." Military and various other Informational web sites only have access ot the marketing media put out by the manufacturer, which almost always include not just one, but several features that are "possible" but in reality do not exist on any production models in service.
Namenlos Ein Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 With R-73 Archer missile it looks much more interesting.
Boberro Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 I regreat there is no Archers or Iglas, but Vikhrs aren't so bad at A-A, you have to remember limitations of this weapon and praying to get luck. As AlphaOneSix mentioned many of published data, pictures are for marketing like well known me Su-33 with Kh-41, which can't deploy it, right? Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
ZaltysZ Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Maybe it would be good idea to write longer post about A2A missiles on Ka-50 and why they are not carried in real life. That post should be made sticky, unless someone wants to be answering the same questions again and again.... (I think this is already the 3rd thread about A2A missiles on Ka-50).
