Nealius Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 (edited) Since so many turns/orbits in the Navy are by default to the left, including the basic bombing pattern in T-45s (and I presume TA-4J and T-2 before that), why was it decided to put the LANTIRN on the starboard hardpoint instead of the port? Putting it on the port side would make more sense to avoid masking, wouldn't it? Edited November 21, 2022 by Nealius
AH_Solid_Snake Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Orbit direction was maybe lower down the list of priorities. Because the initial integration was done quickly on zero budget it might be completely arbitrary, or maybe some wiring bundles happen to be easier to access from the starboard side. I’d be really interested if anyone can do better than conjecture here - it was no doubt documented at the time but where thats gone is anyones guess. 1
SuperOldGuy Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Maybe you can find an answer here. I don't remember if it's in there but its all about LANTIRN on the F-14.
