Steel Jaw Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 (edited) Say from an i5 8600K to a i5 11600K? Cheers. Because here's the thing, once (if) multicore support comes to DCSW I wonder if my 8600K might be enough and I see a VR performance boost? darkman222 Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 (edited) VR is very hardware demanding . You can compare both CPUs concerning single core performance https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/3100vs4236/Intel-i5-8600K-vs-Intel-i5-11600K So you should gain 22% CPU performance. Possibly 22% CPU frame time. If your PC is CPU bottlenecked it could help you jump from stuttery to smooth. Try fpsVR to see whats going on with your current PC. Say if you have a CPU frame time of 12 ms - 22% = 9,36 ms CPU frame time. Everything helps. But in my experience it depends on how the mission was built. And some MP and SP missions are built pretty hardware demanding and you wont be able to get a smooth experience even with the best CPU available. But chances for a smooth ride are getting better with every ms CPU frame time. Edited December 14, 2022 by darkman222 1

Also, in VR my CPU is only running at 50% load while the GPU is maxed at 100%...makes me wonder if a CPU upgrade would have ANY effect? Im guessing the GPU is the bottleneck. It can still depend on the scenario. 2 extremes is single player free flight (not a lot going on CPU wise so your GPU can dish out as many frames as it can) vs flying in multiplayer on Engima's server (high player count, lots of ground units, really demanding for CPU) - so see how the GPU behaves in these scenarios, add some tests that would fall somewhere inbetween and you will most likely have your answer then. Just for the sake of discussion, what is your GPU, VR headset and what resolution you are running? Also what are the in-game graphic settings you are aiming for?
