ericinexile Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 (edited) A few days ago I had bombs loaded mistakenly when I really wanted gun-pods. But before I realised I didn't have guns I notice a pipper on low on the hud while flying at 50m and 200kph. I then climbed and the pipper disappeared. I then pitched over ALOT and there it was again. I tried dropping the bombs and couldn't do it. So I did a little experiment using input from another thread: Bombs can be dropped above 300m (the pipper is there if you pitch to 60 nose down but obviously useless). KGMU RT also has a 300m limitiation. This isn't stateted in the manual but what do they know . KGMU PTAB can be released at 50m and you DO have a CCIP which works great. It's good for taking out unarmed/lightly armed convoys. Now back to what Helos were designed for: ATGM and Rockets. Smokin' Hole and what does that have to do with CCIP? CCIP = Continously Calculated Impact Point (which the ka-50 just doesn't have!) There might be a pipper yes but the above statement would just work if you fly straight with a certain airspeed and a certain altitude. As stated a lot of times before bombing with a ka-50 works like with a ww2 fighter-bomber... Guess when to release and when you release , hope it hits! Or hover over a target when you drop a bomb =) If you want CCIP you will have to wait for the A-10 =) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] F-14 Tomcat Rest in Peace (and hopefully get reborn in DCS!) (Dream came true about 10 years later, now the Apache please )

The Kamov Ka50 may not have a working pipper but the ED simulated Ka50 does. It looks and works much like the CCIP pipper in the Su25 and is more than sufficient to accurately hit targets with the KGMU PTAB-2.5 KO (the only weapon releasable below 300m). Is it using the laser? no. Is it super accurate? no. But is it constantly updating an impact point based on speed, side-slip, and altitude? YES. Again, I'm not promoting the use of bombs. I'm just stating that despite what you guys claim there is a working CCIP pipper that avoids the need to guess, use the manual sight, or pretend you are dropping bombs in a Spad.
