falcon_120 Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 What is exactly the improvement? It's not obvious to me, I would thank a further explanation. Specially looking to know how should I interact with NORM/Wide in the data subpage to better detect beaming or slow target. Thanks in advance. Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk
MARLAN_ Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Without ED providing information its very hard to know what it does in DCS, or if it even matches documentation at all (same for a lot of implementations). The docs say WIDE will reject slow and medium speed targets whereas NORM will include all options. As far as I know, it is essentially widening the notch filter from for example 45 knots to 90 knots which can reject things like slow moving helicopters or fast moving ground vehicles but I haven't researched it very much. I haven't investigated this very much though, honestly I'm surprised this feature got priority compared to much more important issues like LOST, DLZ, ASE, etc. but I can't complain either when at least its another improvement! One step closer to completion. falcon_120 Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 Thanks for the answer MARLAN_, hopefully someone from ED will provide insights as how it works within the realm of the game.
Fresh Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 (edited) I understood it opposite to what Marlan wrote... check out the manual on page 354: Quote Speed Gate. Selects between Normal (NORM) and WIDE target speed gates to determine the width of the doppler radial velocity notch. This is used to not detect/filter out slow moving targets like cars and general aviation aircraft. When in WIDE mode, the notch filter is increased, and slow targets will be detected and displayed. (Coming later in Open Beta) I might have an old manual on my iPad right now... I'll check tomorrow.. The latest manual still has that same text as above.. thinking about it, if you have a wide gate you let more people through, and a narrow gate less, if you want to think of it like that..
