How do I get AWACS support on the mission editor? I put an AWACS on the map but I don't can't an AWACS mode in BVR on the Su-47. I only get "SCAN" on my hud. Guess I have to put targets on the map...

Did a search on both Lock On forums, but no results.

I get AWACS support fine when I throw one in...

Try setting the AWACS aircraft's mission to "AWACS" and putting it on a long enough flight plan that it won't just land on you. I set a few waypoints in a big "racetrack" pattern behind the FLOT.

That worked for me.

Also (and I'm not 100% sure about this), once you switch to BVR and turn on either the EOS or the radar your AWACS info should pop up. If I remember correctly, the radar or EOS has to be on.

First thx for your help.

That's what I did. I put an aircraft on the map with AWACS as its task. So you only have 1 aircraft as an option. Then I made it fly a loop at a distance of around 30km away of the enemy units. Altitude is 8000m.

Now when I switch to EOS or radar mode in BVR I get "SCAN" sign on my hud. Nothing about AWACS. As I said I used a Su-27. But I can use the AWACS to give me directions to refuel or land.

Add an AWACS for your side. Select BVR by pressing 2. Switch on Radar (press I), then switch it off again (press I). Now you should see on your MFS screen all friendly and enemy planes (enemy are triangles). Make sure you have zoomed in/out your MFS with + / - to see them. You can see them and manouevre for your best attack (eg EOS and IR missile and they never see you coming) but because your radar is off, they get no warning on their RWR.

Oh ok. Thank you. So the AWACS only shows me the enemy on the MFS. I thought I could also use it to actually target the enemy without EOS or the onboard radar, thus making me only visible after the launch of a radar active missile.

Is there a American version of this?

Yeah. You have to use at least the EOS to target the enemy, so you are limited by the range of the EOS (or radar, if you want to use it). However, they can't tell that you are using the EOS (its entirely passive) and if you use the R-27-ET (or T, both of which are infared guided) they won't know you are there... ever.

Actually shows both enemy (triangles) and friendlies( circles?). It is useful to know where the friendlies are too!

ZoomBoy has a point. Why isn't this available to US aircraft? I always thought that our integration with AWACS was one of the biggest strengths of the USAF. Now I know that US aircraft operate more independently of GCI or AWACS than Russian aircraft, but I would think that the US would have a more advanced datalink between aircraft and AWACS. Does it not exist, or is it just not modeled in LockOn?

As I heard it, the Russians got to the operational datalink faster than the Americans did - it was always in the Su27, but only more recently in the F15. That's probably the reason Lomac's F15 doesn't have it . . . .

However, I'm also pretty sure that the Russian datalink isn't actually as good as modelled - from what I've heard of Soviet tactics, the datalink would provide information and directions to ONE target, of the ground controller's choosing. That's all.

Think that's a quote from the Flanker 2 manual, that got copied over to the Lomac manual in the great copy/paste fiasco.

I'm not even certain it was still a feature in Flanker 2.5 . . . .
