  1. 1. Do you feel that the helicopter on the ground is too unstable for its weight and acts not too realistically?

    • Yes it gives me a feeling of instability.
    • No it feels realistic to me.

I want to start by saying that I am not a pilot but I had some helicopter flying experience and I would like to know if you also have the same impression flying helicopters on dcs. Right now I have purchased the ah64, mi24 and ka50 modules as well as tried the uh60 mod. What seems very strange to me is the too unstable behavior of the helicopters when I am on the ground and taxiing. My feeling is that these big beasties are slightly underweight; for example the mi 24 which weighs about 10 tons gives a strange swinging sensation (I have watched all the possible videos and never seen swinging in turns) and the same goes for the ah64. I find this really annoying and unrealistic. from personal experience an helicopter on the ground with collective down it is stationary like a rock. Do you also have the same feeling? On the ka 50 and uh60 the thing is better but on ah64 and mi24 is terrible.

Bit difficult/impossible with no real life experience to answer this poll, but fwiw; I have no problem whatsoever making any DCS helo do exactly what I want it to do. So, they "feel" just fine to me.

If the flight characteristics indeed match the real thing? I suppose only SME's can answer that question

Having no time in any kind of rotor wing I feel that I'm not qualified to comment, which has never stopped me from doing so anyway, so here goes: 🙂

The Mi-8 and Huey feel "correct" to me, as does the Ka-50 (2 and 3); the Mi24 required some axis tuning and indeed feels strange when it's getting light on wheels, with a too-pronounced tendency to tip over; the Apache seems slightly off to me as well - it gets light too quickly for whatever little collective I add; that being said, remember to lock the tailwheel prior to getting light on wheels. The worst offender in this regard you did not mention: the Gazelle. A great helicopter to fly above 50km/h. Below that speed it turns into a psychopath intent on killing you, with no apparent mass to slow its movements.

Q: why is this a wish list item? I guess I can infer some implicit recommendation from you that should ED do something; it usually helps to avoid misunderstandings if you spelled out what it is that you want changed, and in which direction that change should be. I also feel that the poll should be refined, as it does not specify which helicopter it applies to.

it depends on which helicopters...
The Mi-24 and the KA-50 seem to me to have rather realistic flight models...
Same for Mi-8
For the Huey, I also think so but I haven't experienced it enough to say.
For the gazelle, the flight model is crap. Ditto for the Apache, capable of barrel rolls without losing a meter of altitude...
Gazelle and Apache have a lack of inertia

In fact, Russians helicopter are well modelised
