Tiger19 Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 After just six months of light use button 6 on my F-18 throttle has stopped working. They are telling me it is "out of warranty" and I have to pay for parts and shipping. I read warranty period as one year - so not happy. BUYER BEWARE shady service. 1
Tiger19 Posted December 29, 2022 Author Posted December 29, 2022 OK - I will post an update - after sending them information right from their own website regarding warranty as well as my shipping date (again copied from their site) I have been told they will ship a "left aviation cable" a "new socket" that I have to "weld on" and a new button. Originally when they wanted me to pay it included a new mobo, seems like that will not ship.
Wolf8312 Posted December 31, 2022 Posted December 31, 2022 (edited) Hum was considering this company but I'd be outraged if I was told I had to weld (myself!) an in warranty product! Mind all of these products we buy are a real pain in the ass should something go wrong with them. But that said my, out of warranty, buttkicker company (not sure if its BK itself or just the seller who is fixing) made me pay the post but still fixed it and are sending it back to me. That's a company I would use again! If I were you I'd kick up a fuss and tell them its their responsibility to fix it, and link them to this forum/post (or somewhere). In my experience these companies will often try it on (apple tried to tell my dad his new laptop had been water damaged) but if you're in the right eventually they will have to do the right thing. That's ridiculous to assume every customer has the skills and tools to do the soldering required to fix this. It really should be exchanged for a new working unit. Tiger19 Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 I received the replacement parts - one button, the short cable that is part of / attached to the left handle and the left side long cable that comes out of the base. Actually those parts do not require any "welding" (soldering). But . . . I opened the throttle handle and before removing those existing parts I verified the problem was not with them by hooking up the new cable and button outside the handle first and confirming that the problem maintained. I also used a circuit tester to verify the small internal circuit board was not the issue. That left disassembling the base - and after removing the dozen or so long screws that are obvious from the bottom I was not able to open it up. At that point I decided to stop and not do any harm. My manual dexterity is not that great, and WinWing provided no instructions - just parts. I am going to continue to raise a stink, but I am not hopeful. Buyer beware.
Auxair 51 Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 I had a similar problem with both my F16 joystick with the "Shark Kit" adapter and the Orion 2 throttle base. The throttle with the F18 grips and the F16 joystick were working fine. My problem started about 3 months in when I added the finger lift kit on the throttle. Followed the instructions to the letter (simple really - take off the grips, install the lift kit - reattach the grips). Immediately all the buttons on both joysticks did not work and the software only recognised the base. As a result, I added the Shark kit to the joystick to at least give me some additional functionality, and when plugging in the small cable, the plug socket broke. They sent me a replacement PCB which I had to pay for, whilst sending me replacement throttle cables for the grips. had to disassemble everything in the joystick and the throttle base.... got the joystick working but the grips still didn't. Now I have to ship the throttle base back and they will send out a replacement base..... appears to this lay person that when adding the finger lift kit, the cables become super tight.... almost restricting the throttle movement at the highest part.... clearly a design failure. Shame though as I loved it - way better than my X52.
