TheMoose Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 (edited) Hi ED & Beta testers, Since pictures relays more then words. I have created this small movie without sounds. It was taken from the courier mission. I haven’t modified any lua files or cfg files. This is pure default. I have a concern on how the fog reacts with its surroundings. Is it just me? Related to the current engine? Anyhow I needed to point to this out. The transition of the effects does not feel right. Seems either pure on or off, affecting the trees, etc... (I’ve compress the movie to a mp4 format since it's the smallest format I could manage. Hopefully you will be able to see it. Unfortunately I cannot uploaded it directly to the forum due to its size (7 megs)) Download here Edited January 21, 2009 by TheMoose grammar ;) Antec 900 gaming tower, PSU: Corsair 750W, Q6600, Asus P5K, 8Gig Mushkin, Nvidia eVGA 280 GTX Superclocked 1G DDR3, SSDNOW200 Kingston Drive, TrackIr 3000+Vector, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick, Saitek rudder pedals pro, Sharp 42" inch LCD Aquo. SixMarbles Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 That's pretty extreme. I haven't noticed the sudden onset at a particular altitude on my system, but I have noticed that objects such as trees aren't occluded at all by the fog, while the ground is obscured.
bumfire Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 That happens to me also, its because you are flying at a level where the fog ends and the clouds begin, so all of a sudden the ground looks white but you can still see the trees, basically you are flying just above the fog instead of flying through it. I wouldnt class it as a bug, if their is a problem then it is more likely video card settings but since this happens to me also then I wouldnt say its a bug.
CAT_101st Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 when I drop in to the fog I just get a white out situation and when above it I see no trees. Tango Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Hi, I can still see the trees. I think I can still see ground units, too, but don't quote me on that bit. Best regards, Tango.
Adreu Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Not a very nice transition effect, that's for sure.
TheMoose Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) I recently re install Vista from Xp on my rig. I have the same effect… It’s a paper thin transition. When it occurs, you just need to pause the game and move up from external view to see it. It’s a bit annoying when you fly inside fog banks. I’m still wondering if this is confirmed by ED by being a limitation on the current game engine and if it will be fixed in the future... Will it? Paper thin I would be ok, the issue is there is no transition whatsoever, you see a line of pure on / pure off, it should transition gradually, less making it an eye soar… NOTE to self, avoid fog ;) Edited January 29, 2009 by TheMoose Antec 900 gaming tower, PSU: Corsair 750W, Q6600, Asus P5K, 8Gig Mushkin, Nvidia eVGA 280 GTX Superclocked 1G DDR3, SSDNOW200 Kingston Drive, TrackIr 3000+Vector, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick, Saitek rudder pedals pro, Sharp 42" inch LCD Aquo.
