can a dev or tester from ED tell me what the Jettison Arming button actually DOES ?

manual says:

“ВЗР – НЕ ВЗР” (Armed/Disarmed weapon jettison arming switch). This switch determines if the weapon will be armed prior to being jettisoned. "ВЗР" = armed, "НЕ ВЗР" = disarmed for jettison"

Ive tried jettisoning (armed on) bombs which just fall through slanted ground/tanks as if they arent there (no collision detection?). If they fall on flat ground i sometimes see a little dust cloud on the ground but no explosion.

Is it for arming missiles only before jettisoning?

thanks

Hi Braden,

I believe this sets Vhikers as armed or disarmed on jettison. These are jettisoned by launching them as opposed to dropping the mounts.

Jettison weapons (or fuel tanks) is a procedure to drop it from the aircraft/helo. In case of emergency maneuvers or in case of empty weapon holders/fuel tanks for example.

You do not want to inadvertedly jettison your load though, so that's why the jettison system needs to be armed first. It's not the weapons you arm, but the jettison system.

See it more like setting it to stand-by when you arm it, ready to drop the load.

Disarm it and you cannot jettison anything.

Nemises has it right. The switch the OP is referring to sets whether ot not the Vikhrs are armed prior to jettison. When the Vikhrs are jettisoned, the are fired straight out of the launcher (without guidance) en masse like rockets. The launcher itself is not jettisoned. The switch in question can arm the Vikhrs before they are launched so that they will detonate when they hit the ground. Otherwise they remain inert and poke holes in the ground.

The switch in question only arms the Vikhrs prior to jettison. All other ordnance is dropped straight down from the pylon without being armed, and in the case of rockets, includes the launcher.

Note that there is one switch to jettison all Vikhrs, and a seperate button for jettisoning anything (and everything) else.

There is no "arming" switch to arm the jettison system itself.

so the manual is wrong (what i quoted above) ?- where it implies you can jettison the weapons ARMED or UNARMED

righto, this is starting to make more sense...jettison arm button only affects the atgm jettison button. sounds like a clarification in the manual is required...or im just Thick :)
