i am turning on, the ecm . and ew, ALE-47 to s/a1, and to hub. SA on d/l iff is set up, i swear ever its not warning me, and i just blow up of could i be miss it as im a  nub ?

You're assuming it's a radar missile that's taking you down.  The Russian planes have nasty long range IR missiles that are easy to miss/forget about (because you're thinking radar guided at that range) to your unfortunate demise (speaking from too much experience on this one alas ).

Yup, the R-27ET can be dodgy at times, but it will get you at far further out than you'd expect if the bandit can get a lock. That thing plus IRST is great at sneak attacks, especially from behind when engine nozzles are visible and the high speed and long flyout range come into play. It does tend to go after flares more easily than more modern heaters, so you can try that if you spot one.
