Radar

I don't understand the radar. Flying straight and level pick up 2 contacts in front of me 15 miles out I lock up the first one , it beaks lock flying towards me then they both disappear off radar and that's the end of me. Any tutorial I watched says don't play with the elevation knob but it has to have something to do with it? They were about 4,000 ft higher than me. I usually don't post in forums but this thing has me very confused

Antennas elevation has been fixed, that advice about not touching it is old and redundant.  You need to use Antenna elevation in search mode. Once locked the antenna will track the target.
