dooom Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Hey all, After updating DCS i am back in my gravity well of trying to optimize VR with my G2 and Open XR. I don't really know what i should be shooting for with my advanced FPS and frametime reporting... any standards that are acceptable when i'm looking at that little reporting window through OpenXRTK in-game? Also - i have always left MR and custom resolution in the OXR for WMR as "Disabled" and 100% assuming that any settings i pop into OXRTK will override. is this a correct assumption? 1 ASUS Tuf Gaming Pro x570 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.8 / XFX Radeon 6900 XT / 64 GB DDR4 3200 "This was not in the Manual I did not read", cried the Noob" - BMBM, WWIIOL
Glide Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 (edited) Watch the app GPU frame times. For example, if you are targeting a consistent 30fps, then the app GPU frame times need to stay below 33ms ish. This is similar to keeping GPU Load below 100% in GPU-Z. If I'm getting 30ms app GPU frame times, it means I'm using my GPU to the max, but not breaking the 30 FPS barrier. You can do the math for a target of 45fps, if that's your personal minimum. Your app CPU frame times will likely be below the GPU frame times in VR all the time. If not, turn up your game settings. If find you can crank the settings to the max with anything above a 3080. Read the OpenXR Toolkit documentation on github. There's a lot of good stuff there. I run my OpenXR at 75%. This is like running a 4k monitor at 3k. If you set OpenXR Toolkit to NIS 75% it will render at 75% and scale up to 100%, for example. OpenXR: no upscaling. OpenXR Toolkit: upscaling. That just scratches the surface. mbucchia Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 You can use the "Target frame rate" option under Overlay to get hints. Set it to the "ideal" framerate you wish for, and it will give you either the amount of headroom you have (if you can reach that frame rate) or where you are limited and by how much you are limited (if you cannot reach the specified frame rate). I wasn't banned, but this account is mostly inactive and not monitored.
