Just wondering what etiquette is on online servers for free flight:

Should I use the \ and F keys to ask permission to start up, taxi and take off like it showed on one of tutorials or is it more a "just don't hit anybody and enjoy your flight" sort of thing?

Nobody pays attention to the ingame ATC. The only thing it does provide is a suggestion to which runway to use, but online people take off from whatever direction is closer to them.

Especially in aerobatics/free flight servers, real life procedures are most often disregarded and the players fly like they want to.

The only "etiquette" to follow is try not to kill too many friendlies.

Generally, just read the briefing when you log onto a server.  They may have a radio channel to use for announcing your taxi, takeoff, approach and landing to the others on the server via SRS.  But yeah, don't run into anyone.  😕

Ya, setup SRS on the server-designated common channel, self-announce intentions, taxi to, on final, departure from... and then, that other bit... don't run into anyone else. 🙂

I'm not updating this anymore. It's safe to assume I have all the stuff, and the stuff for the stuff too. 🙂

Yes, this.

I always self announce what I’m doing on SRS. Especially around airports. Almost always no one responds, but I feel more emersion doing it. I also do a radio check on SRS as soon as the jet is warming up. Most of the time these are answered by someone.
