uhoh7 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I've been playing around with S-8 rockets and main battle tanks last few days. What I discovered, and some may know, is that they are very blind if you get right over them. Even the small arms fire ceases, and they do not seem to want to fire the main gun at a target right next to them. Of course this only works when they are alone and their buddies can't help out, but's it's quite entertaining to torture a lone tank in this way, and very good practice for helicopter control and observing S-8 behavior. Also you get to admire the nice tanks ED has given us from the cockpit. You can throw your own test together, or I threw up something in the missions section, with a series of MBTs and an S-8 Loadout. It's a sort of cat/mouse play where the mouse is potentially very dangerous. E8600 Asus P5E Radeon 4870x2 Corsair 4gb Velociraptor 300gb Neopower 650 NZXT Tempest Vista64 Samsung 30" 2560x1600
miguez Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Yep, I have done this too, approach a tank which is firing at me with main gun (from afar), then machine gun (closer), then nothing (really close). It seems the AI has a minimum engagement distance even for smaller arms.

They will engage you quite close in some cases if you drop a bit low. The T-72 is very active at steeper angles, but right over the top you are safe. That little mission I put up is quite a challange to aviod damage and crashing long enough to get all five (for me anyway), and since all are different you can compare behaviors. DiabloSP Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Turret mounted machine guns are capable of firing directly upwards? Answering that question may answer our doubts.
