GAI - The Mystery

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make a GAI mission work. The below mission has 2 SU-27's on the runway and a Russian AWACS airborne. That is all that is in the mission. The mission for the 27's is set to GAI. But after about 40 seconds the SU's take off, fly the landing pattern, land, and park. How do you make GAI work?

From what I've seen airborne units no longer have autonomous AI, you have to give everything a target no matter what. They don't seem to engage on their own. This probably extends to GAI missions also.

 

I've made test missions where F-15s fly right past enemy Flankers, all are loaded with AA missiles but nothing happens unless you give them targets...

 

Except ground vehicles / SAMs etc, they seem to engage tagets ok...

I tried making the GAI mission with a target area, targetting Aircraft and they still did the same thing.

Nevermind, I did some testing and posted my results in the Bug/Problem forums.

I tried the same like Dusty Rhodes for the last few hours...nothing works. Same behaviour...

So please tell me, is this another bug or is the description in the GUI Handbook wrong/incomplete?

Perhaps in your anger you failed to notice that Dusty mentioned he had also posted this question in the Problems and Bugs section of the forum.

It is a problem and it has been reported. I hope they can sort it out as GAI is an important ingredient to making a dynamic, living mission environment.
