Just did buy the game yesterday and, unless not recommended, tried instantly the maximum settings at 1280x1024. It runs quiet smooth on my rig, althoug not perfectly so I will reduce some really hard points (shadows for example). My rig:

Intel Core2Duo E8400@3.6GHz

ASUS P5Q (Intel P45)

8GB (4x2GB) DDR2 800

ATI HD4870@790/1000 512MB RAM

320GB SATAII HDD

Windows Vista Home Premium x64

So you see, even though it is said that the DCS:BS performs well on weaker systems, for maxing all out you need quiet a powerful computer. I still did not tweak it at all, I am sure I can get a super performance if I do.

regards

Chris

From what I gather atm the engine just uses a single core and is more CPU bound than graphics bound. Am going to be upgrading my MB, CPU and RAM first before anything else, however even on my ancient rig it runs fine with settings set to low.

I have a XPS 420 2.4 quad core 3 gig ram and GT8800 pro 512 mb. also x-fi sound card.

should I use vista or dual boot xp as well?

That depends. If you plan on using dual monitors(single player only) then XP might be the way to go because you can use the span feature and dual monitors works fine.

I ran XP for a couple of days on my current rig and in my opinion, the game runs smoother and I get better fps when using the affinity batch script. I have read that Vista also is able to balance directX better across cores.
