Will ED need that copy protection after 6 Months? Like they did for patch 1.02

 - Why wouldn't they promise a patch with the usual fixes(no sim doesn't need fixes) and a No CD/No Activation patch

If they are going to listen to the wondrous promises of Starfox, at least weigh the value of no activation patch after 6 months when 90 % of sales are usually done.

Also compare it to other system like for Combat Mission and Dangerous Waters.

I was hoping to buy 2 copies. 1 for me and another for a buddy who doesn't have a credit card. That's going to be tricky if not impossible under the Starforce systems.

Please take my money, Mister. Pleeease!!!

Any Answers there?

They need to keep the copy protection on so that the game isn't pirated. Putting a no-cd patch effectively removes the games ability to produce a profit since as people will just copy it and give it or sell it to other people. Its better for ED to keep the copy protection on so that they gain a good profit and they're more likely to make more flight sims.

Good point. There is nothign wrong with keeping copy protection.

My point was after 6 months there's not going to be a large demand for downloading Flaming Cliffs and not much profit.

But I think they should have copy protection for the 1st 6 months.

But after 6 months, the cost of administering the Starforce might exceed the value of keeping it Starforce-protected.

A lot of people like to keep their sims on their machine for a long time. And if you promise a No-CD/Authorization patch after 6 months, you'll get a larger group of initial buyers and buyers in total. And you protect yourself from pirating for the 1st 6 months.

I doubt that's what they're planning on doing, but I imagine it's possible they'll remove it if it causes the kinds of problems some people are predicting.

Also, you said that StarForce would make it impossible for you to buy more than one copy. I don't get the logic there. How so?

It is merely my suggestion to them that will smooth things over without possibly losing them profits.

Quite frankly I don't know how big a problem it will be. I said, "tricky if not impossible" if it's tied to hardware - that's only my best estimate. Until they set out the payment procedures and how they're tied to the hardware/ip, it could be easy, tricky, or possibly impossible. So, if I'm lucky, they'll correct me.
