Mugatu Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Will they release the cockpit audio, that would be very interesting?
diveplane Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 (edited) Will they release the cockpit audio, that would be very interesting? that is the cockpit audio, and from atc.. before during after the birds strike. hitman Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I think it was just from ATC, it was the controller doing the talking.
bumfire Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 (edited) The pilot seems calm, he was almost robot like when he was being offered different airports and runways to land at and he was replying with Unable and were going for the hudson. Great job he did in managing to land without it breaking up or sinking straight off, he deserves all the great job offers that he has been receiving like the one which he got offered from Richard branson about being a Virgin ( pardon the pun ) space pilot, good luck to him I say. The version I listened to yesterday which wasnt on youtube was much much clearer than this copy, It was on some website from washington, maybe a newspaper or something, I cant recall exactly what the name of it was again but it was a popular washington news outlet. X-man Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 The full ATC recording during the accident, including transcripts... http://www.faa.gov/data_statistics/accident_incident/1549/ In the last call from Cactus #1549 (the "we're going into the Hudson") you can here the GPWS beeping. In an airbus, that would be about 800ft IIRC... 64th Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 135.181.115.54
kaiserb_uk Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I actually think the rather terse, one word reply "unable" shows how hard he was working in the cockpit, rather than calm. 'Calm' implies he was asking the stewardess for a black coffee, one sugar... ;)
hitman Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 'Calm' implies he was asking the stewardess for a black coffee, one sugar... ;) Thats not the definition of "calm". That is the definition of "cool". Id be more impressed if he banged one of the stewardesses while landing his plane in the drink.

Aeroscout Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I believe the pilot was previously a glider pilot, and so was used to a plane with out power. He knew how to manage the plane's energy and knew what it could and could not do. Smart choice to land it in the river. DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
hitman Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 javascript:void(window.open('http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/ynews?ch=4226713&cl=11886286&lang=en','playerWindow','width=793,height=608,scrollbars=no')); Some actual video of the aircraft landing in the hudson. Just copy and paste it into the browser, and allow the popup to materialize.
X-man Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 He knew how to manage the plane's energy and knew what it could and could not do. Smart choice to land it in the river. The airbus FBW system wont let you go outside the flight envelope, and this really helps in these situations. He just couldnt stall even if he'd like too ;) Not only was he experienced USAF f-4 pilot, but he'd also worked with NTSB on previous incidents and he was also developing safety methods for the aviation industry. He was the perfect man for this situation :) 64th Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 135.181.115.54
