Lange_666 Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 (edited) Just before my R&R my Rift-S had called it a day. Back home now and re-trying to get some life into it without much luck. Problem is the sensors won't track and the front blue led doesn't come on which means no display inside the HMD. Things i tried: - Uninstalling and re-installing the Oculus software. - Switched USB 3.0 ports - Switched Display ports - Re-seated Display port side HMD - Used PCI USB 3.0 card. - Used powered USB 3.0 Hub. When i start from scratch, setting up the device, i start the Oculus sofware, select the device, and go device setup. I plug in USB 3.0 and after a few seconds the green light comes on for USB 3.0 (whatever of the listed options above i use, i always get a green light). Next i plug in DP and directly the light for this turns to green also. Next step is the sensor check but it never passes anymore here. Either i get a sensor check error, a USB 3.0 not connected (although the light is still green) or a Display port error (although the light is still green also). In the end i don't get an image, the screen either stays black or has the 3 loading dots showing (which tells me the display itself is OK). In my memory i had 2 Rift-S Hub entries in the Device Manger under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. I now only have one. Questions: - How many do you guys have, just 1 or 2? - When does the front blue led turns on? My conclusion for now is that my cable is borked...and therefore also my Rift-S. Mausar Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) I still have Rift S. If Rift is connected to a PC you just gently tap it and sensors should pick that and front blue light must turn on. I didn't have similar problems as you describe. I could play and then I hear scratchy sound, goggles goes dark and tiny white dot between lenses turn on. Game was still running oculus restart and in Oculus Notification area says that cable was not connected. I try every possible solution as you but nothing works. I remember that I often step on cable and with wheels on gaming chair. And this is a big NO GO cable god damaged and restart from time to time witch was super annoying. Since I buy new cable all troubles are gone and take care that I don't step on cable. Edited April 30, 2023 by Mausar
Lange_666 Posted April 30, 2023 Author Posted April 30, 2023 Thx for the info. Just what i already thought. - There need to be 2 Rift S USB Hub entry's. I only have one. Nothing i tried would make the second appear. - On mine the blue led doesn't turn on anymore + i can not for the world pass the sensor (camera) check. I never mistreated the cable, was always very cautious when using the headset but even then it's possible that the very tiny copper cables inside can break according to various posts i found on the net. One of them: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/11uc8f6/psa_all_rift_s_cables_will_eventually_fail_with/ Options: - Getting a replacement cable or headset anywhere (found a few second hand options although a bit expensive to my taste). - Quest 2: I don't entirely trust Meta, the Rift-S i have now is the second one, the first got replaced under warranty + the connection of the headstrap on this one also cracked + now the cable... - Getting a Pico 4 (the setup sets me back, need to dig into Wifi - Router setup which is not my thing and which i don't have, everthing is wired here + the need for SteamVR) - Wait for next gen headset "with" a display port that comes at a reasonable price. kerlcat Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 My previous Rift S worked for 4 yrs without quality issues other than those floppy SW problems in early stage. So it's OK if you wanna replace a cable to keep it till new gen or at least you could sell it on eBay after repaired. I sold my Rift S right after I tried Pico4 last month. Clarity is much better as well the sweet spot. And setup is not that tricky at all to me if you won't try tethering w/ VD which seem too complex to me as well. I meanly use it as PCVR for DCS and Beat sober and just a few clicks each time to get it started. Even with my previous dual-band wifi 6 router, it is playable. Actually buying a used tri-band Wifi 6 router is the easiest way to me, meanwhile improving your home network quality. I guess original cable of Rifts-S is no cheap either. Next Gen and affordable one... takes time unless you would rather to wait about 6 months or so. If month is not a issue, then Varjo Aero is the next gen which you can buy today. 7800X3D /3090 /64GB /SSD 2T+4T /Quest3<-(Pico4<-Rift S <-Rift CV1) /Orion F18 /DOFReality P6; Win11
