Carrier Ball & Lift at the deck

so I have been practicing carrier landings pretty heavily. I have the entire case 1 pattern down, however, I'm struggling flying the ball. i keep the ball centered the entire time yet somehow miss the wire. I slowed down a clip of me doing it and am noticing that right as i get to the deck there's a lift that is throwing me a few feet higher and that's what was causing me to miss it. How do I counter that? fly the ball lower to account for it?

Search the forum for "burble effect". There are probably about a 100 threads about it being broken 🙂

i knew i wasnt crazy. im flying the ball so perfect and yet being essentially "punished" for not throwing the jet down at the last second. ill look up these threads now

I’ll add that you can turn the burble effect off, by disabling wake turbulence.

awesome. im gonna try a landing now with it off to see how i do!

Don't need to throw the jet downwards at near toutchdown. It is a matter of anticipating it and muscle memory. It was very unsettling when I needed to adjust when it was introduced but giving time and practice you'll get better at anticipating it. Two days ago I managed to get a landing that was almost like on rails with the burble on.

If you want to practice gradually, I'd suggest making a scenario on Mission Editor with very weak winds or no winds and carrier at 15kts, then gradually increasing upwards of 27kts and higher value winds.

There is a way and it takes time. Fair skies! 🙂

As mentioned above - you're not crazy, and turn off wake turbulence. It's awfully modeled overall, sadly. I'd love it to be better, and probably will be, but for now you're better off with it disabled.

Do you still get some ground effect as you come over the deck/tarmac?
